Hello, im new to this forum.
Iv had my x8r a few months, last week it lost compressiom. it still goes but very underpowered. Needs a new cylinder and piston so i decided to go for a 70. Iv just bought it. I can do the work myself. I was wondering about up jetting and running it in, any advice?
    Cheers

what kit is it? helps to identify the running in process.

and upjet is about 8% but its best to go up 10% then work down.

when running in an iron kit, the first 10 mins are crucial, leave the bike, like sleyeh said, at a fast tickover until warm through, then let it cool down. then warm up again and ride very carefully for at least 100 miles (or 4 hours, whichever comes first). then just ensure you warm the bike up before rding each time you came it it and you shouldn't have a problem

i would suggest replacing the belt at the same time as ftting the kit.

make sure you have longer gearing (polini o/s variator or gear up kit) as i lowered my gearing back to standard for a laugh just before i split the bike for parts, although it was a feckin wheely machine it only done 40mph. standard gearing is well to low.

As for jetting, i believe i had a 92 jet in a 21mm carb with K+N (this was on a TP 70kit though, but both iron an relatively low power)

also i can see the standard reed valve and manifold as a serious restriction on a 70 as when i changed mine over the stardard manifold had a tiny little hole lol and the reed block was a joke.

    ...... ;)
