Working on a C90 I picked up the other day,so far 2 rear indicators are off (gave me a chance to empty out the ?water???. ).,stems are a bust.but indicators rescueable.?. Leg-shields are off for breathing space and to have a better gander.bit dirty/but easyily fixed later.,tryed seeing if a miracle might happen when I put a screwdriver on the side of the ignition switch,to stop it rotating/so I could hold it still to put in on position......it kicks over fine, but just as well I DID have shields off - cause petrol pipe had been cut short and plugged with a bolt.. I DO HAVE A SPARK.!!!!!!!!,though weak, have'nt checked battery or carb yet, thinking of cutting fresh piece of pipe/throw in a couple of mikalors..... gonna drain oil 1st/leave for a few hours +at the same time poor a little petrol into tank+a cpla nuts.bolts. So,just change plug, drain oil, back in a couple of hours.mk.
Hear YE .!. - Hear YE .!. , As of 10:00 of the a.m. in the morning, Yon noble C90........gushie moment.. RUNS..........AND,wait for it......RIDES!!!! . (see if I can post 1-2 clips.?,have u-tube ( "It RUNS!!!!!!" + "It RIDES!!!!" just uploaded (i think?)mk.
Leg-shields came up sweet.,not a crack anywhere, minor blemishes/solid,even age related crazing is limited to a couple of "'s at the base of the centre of .,have a stainless mounting set (bolts, etc.), ready to re-fit. Frame is solid, brass brushed bits of rust and paint off...bit of further cleaning/bit of rust treatment,sorted.!. Started it up again, after a light clean - It said hello, then told me to f...off,seems i've oversized replacement petrol pipe slightly and it was leaking slightly - That's it for this week,it's parked up now, under cover, tucked in till next weekend (which i've off ).,
Crunched some figures.?. - reckon £175.00 to get it MOT'd + insured inc.parts(stems/battery/rust proofer/bulbs/cables/brake shoes).....see how it goes,see if that's a viable } sat..........?.
we will have to meet up on the cubs next time im in the uk. mine is really mint, nearly no rust at all!
Had a session with it today, for a deeper look - Faults:- •Front mudguard snapped in half.wired together under steering stem...do a better job at some point, but more importantly, bottom lugs o.k. . •Ignition switch spins in housing •Indicators not worling, rear stems need replacing -though don't see any reason I should'nt be able to renovate present indies. •cylinder head has 1snapped bolt a couple of mil. in,which was why it was a little louder than I remembered. •Some rust, but after tapping/reckon a good wire wheel down +primer/paint in patches. Now some good points, •wheels are nigh on spotless, minimal rust on front.patches on rear - looked quite good when wiped down. •Tyres look viable,no visible degradation, though rear may?be borderline still looks tidy. •Exhaust is pukka esp.after I took off some silver paint.(theres been a few c90ish bodges done on this bike, though nothing major). •Apart from the indicators, though lights (ALL!),work perfectly, inc.instrument panel (bar indie light). • Could probs do with 1-2 cables, but present work. That's all for now..mk.
Bliss.!., decided it'll be a sensible bet to replace the 5 wheel bearings, then it's downstairs for a touch up respray/wheels on with new shoes.springs., meanwhile/give me a nice evening 1 night, cpla hours listening to the wireless/detailing..de-grunging baked on s.....e on the wiring loom. Think i've had a C90 1st...centre-stand spindle NOT seized!!!!! - though 3-4" of flur.orange rust (cleaned, but patina'd)...handy as did'nt fancy cutting it off,as costly (gonna leave 70's on/though seized.....don't know how that works in relation to MOT as brake pedal runs off it.?.) Swing-arms o.k.,not rusty.though will respray Xbar. Hate waiting for the post........... .
Re-using originally fitted C&S,cleaned up good/though need to check chain brand (o-rings?),want to soak in a little petrol/nylon brush it. Doing that, cause been a while since sussing gear ratios, mine's not standard (14/36),supposed to be (15/39),thought leave as is before head meltdown...got a date with a non-corrided chain guard an a microfibre (pre-fkd) cloth..later's ...
For the most,do give them a fair good clean BEFORE they come indoors an sanding an spraying's done OUTSIDE as it gets reaaaaly tiring picking wire wheel spines out of your toes going for a p at 2 in the morning..
Reckon a cpla years yet, before the Honda curse hits......... Little bit of detailing wit moi's angle grinder to tidy up end of frame.then bolt rear underm/guard/ which came off easily (still re-use bolts, tooo!!),, 2" hole left wall of battery box,but have a rather clever idea for that..
Fkd that one up,prob.is have c90+70 parts side by side....an I was only cleaning the fekking 70's sprocks......
