After my Yamaha Jog RR seized up and I was told it'd need a new cylinder kit I went out and got it all on, changing the fuse and then I decided to change the oil pump at the same time. The kickstart now moves as it should... all sounds fine but the damn thing wont start! It wants to, you can be sure of that on listening! I've removed the new plug and it's bone dry, i've put some oil down there and it's still refusing to start for me. Can anyone give me some advice with this? She's a lovely bike and i'd hate to see her go but at the same time i'm wondering if this is going to be some stupid easy fix and if I do sell imma lose out Much Appreciated Guys! x
Should of put petrol down it not oil.. And a drop not loads.. Is it a bore kit you've added or standard, did you touch or drrain carb when you fitted need kit, reeds on the right way and so on.. Clip on piston properly?
A dry plug equals no fuel getting to the piston, so you need to check the vacuum pipes. Are the fuel/vac pipes on the right way round for a start. Does fuel flow from the pipe when you suck on the vac pipe.
When you fitted the new "kit" was it a complete piston and barrel kit with the gaskets, or have you re-used the old gaskets?
We all learned somehow and we've all made mistakes. At least in this case, they have a well lubed piston.
I'd suspect the crankcase seals, they are a common failure on engines that won't start that people don't check.
what was the reason for the seizure? low oil or low coolant? could be something dumb like a misplaced wire, could also be lack of fuel in the tank?
When testing compression perhaps? - do an initial test, then squirt in some oil and retest to see if there is a difference...
CORRECT ANSWER!!! You're right I should have clarified it only applies to 4 strokes - don't tell mother or she'll confiscate my socket set
i do wonder however how much difference you get on a 2t doing a wet and dry compression test... something i have never done
