Why are peds faster when cold

    Ive noticed my Neo's 50cc Aircooled Scooter Is quicker when cold

    Like in the morning when its really cold As the weather is shit at the moment but if I start it on choke and let it run for 20 seconds turn choke off, and ride off once its warmish like 2 minutes for the first 2 miles it flys top speed is 52mph Indicated.

    After that top speed drops to a normal 45mph and stays like that

    The extra cold weather we are experiencing at the moment is very good for auto scooters in 2 ways...

    it keeps your transmission cooler for longer, which means more torque is transfered through the rear pulley to the back wheel, yes theres a reason why those high power 70cc scooters in europe have more air holes in the tranny cases than a paper doyley...

    The other big advantage as far as your engine is concerned is, cold air is more denser with oxygen molecules than warm air, so it will literally feel like youve got a bigger carb on your ped :grin:

    just a word of caution though, its a good idea to have a look at your plug colour during the winter, a lot of people up jet a couple of sizes so their engines dont run too lean in the winter....

    Everything in the above post is spot on!

    And vertially ALL engines run like stabbed rats when cold, as we all know heat reduces performance so when the engine is fully warmed up it will run slightly weaker.

    However I wouldnt reccomend driving it hard untill the engine is upto full running temp.. Especially on a 2 stroke, as it can cause extra carbon buildup on the piston, head and in the exhaust. Also, engine oil doesnt perform its best untill the engine is nice & hot! :thumbsup:
