cut a long story short...some scrote ripped the filter of the lads ped. He rode it home through the quarry by the looks of things around the engine. (70 kit/21mm carb/performance reeds & block/polini air filter)

    hence crap got in EVERYWHERE!

We've cleaned out the carb and reeds and fitted a new filter. Theres a good spark and the fuel is getting to the plug. The choke's working OK but it won't fire up.
I dropped a compression test on the barrel and it only made 70...which by normal stds is very low. SO we've taken the engine out and took the head/barrel off. It's getting new rings and gaskets but whats best to clean out the bottom end without a total strip of the cases?

I thought about washing it out with neat petrol (couple of pints) and tipping out via the conrod access..THEN a further wash with a mix of 2 stroke oil and petrol to lube the bearings before putting it back together

    thoughts please........ :confused:cratch:

If you've already got as far as that just split the cases ain't exactly hard really then you'll have no problems then, i'd personally replace the bearings and seals for peace of mind too.

True as you might need new bearings.

Or at least they will need cleaning , as if grit got in after time casing the bearings to just FOOK up and go stiff , and that wouldnt be good after just stripping it down .

if you think the bearings are in ok condition and dont wasnt the hassel of ripping it completly to bits (its not a case of "its in bits anyway" as a new crank put in badly is worse than an old crank sitting happily) just fill the thing wiht petrol, swish it about then pull the oil seals out (these will need replacing) then the fuel will wash the debris off the bearings (mostly) now slide a hoover over the end of the crank flat down to the case (both sides) you will suck out whats left... replace the seals to the required depth (messure the old ones befor you remove them) and it should be good... no point even trying to assess bearings if there full of shit so get the engine flushed out and see how it feels once you re oil the bearings.

cheers Minor, thats the sort of reply I was hoping for.

The bearings themselves feel VERY smooth even before the cases have been washed out...no feel of grit etc & theres no VISIBLE shite on the webs or rod but there was plenty of crap around the reed petals stopping them closing properly, and the carb was a proper state

I've fetched all the parts on my way home from work so if the lad gets home early enough he can start the clean and rebuild tonight

tbh bearings are hard to get shit in if the seals are intact... the big end would have taken the force of any debri's as would the piston/cylinder... just dont try and spin the crank when your flushing/hovering the thing out.. get it all washed, drained dry and oiled befor you think about turning the crank.

my rg125 had about 1\4 of a smashed piston in the bottom end, rather than split cc's ,just filled with petrol & swished it about, & turned it upside down several times till all the crap came out, must admit to spinning crank thou to help it out, bearings were a bit notchy at 1st but i kept flushing it till they were smooth. you can even keep using the same petrol at 1st if you filter it , then use clean pre mix on last few goes. i take it its a 2 stroke. once it fires up it'll blast anything else down there out within a few seconds.

just to update everyone...it fired up and runs without probs...sounds smooth as silk still

Oh well, thats the first issue sorted......

Looks like the jets need changing and carb needs more attention coz, the damn thing's still bogging down off the throttle and tries to die when its gassed
