im no whizz on carbs by any means but ive been getting so pissed off with my bike struggling to stay alive when cold and hot that i thought id try ajust the idle. so i took the seat out etc and started by adjusting the screw (flatheaded screw) on the left i screwed it a turn to the left and then another screw to the left it made no noticeable difference what soever so i turned it back to original position and turned it the other way. 1 turn and then another turn it also made no difference certainly to the tickover. i then moved onto the screw to the right i believe it has a slight copper colour too it. i started by screwing it inwards and the idle seemed to get stronger. i took it down the road and it seemed to over rev quite a bit when i stopped and when i let go of the throttle it seemed to take about 2 seconds to return to idle. and when i pulled the throttle back frum idle to full it bogged out a treat. so i turned it outwards until it didnt bog out and didnt over rev. but now the idle is quite poor. the bike runs very smoothly like going along but idle is poor. im aware that my bike is auto choke and the battery is fucked but i doubt this could make a difference. waht could i try now??
    sorry for the carry on.

p.s before adjusting th carb i cleaned out the float bowl a waste of time as it was pretty much spotless in there anyway. thanks

well the idle screw is on with a spring on it so keep trying to turn thtat see if it makes a difference, i think u turn it left to increase the idle but not too sure. just one thing i fucking hate carbs! they are shit nothing but trouble from experience

gutner carb dont have a visible spring iirc when i adjusted mine i took the panel of above the neck of the oil bottle under the hinge if the seat and used a small electrical screwdriver to adjust because of the bad angle i think it is the one closest to the top on the exhuast side which is the idle. notice i said THINK so dont hold me to it:)

ok stop guessing, if you dont know just dont post

RIGHT, sounds like lean idle mix... the screw that made the revs rise is your idle speed screw.. it just lifts the slide the same way the throttle does but in small incriments.. the idle mix is HARD to notice tbh.. set the idle speed quite high (like you have) now wind the smaller screw in half a turn and blip the throttle... if it hesitates or fails to drop back to idle continue inwards untill your fully in.. remember it takes a good 30 seconds for the idle mix to make any diff so do it half a turn at a time and ride it, note the diff...

the choke may well be fucked but the prob your having atm is down to lean idle and the speed set too high, sort that.,

oh and make sure the bikes UP TO TEMP befor messing with anything carb related

mate ive read the lot. i havent adjusted the idle speed minor i think ive been adjusting the mix screw. its not far off being perfect i reckon a screw or 2 to the left and it will be ok as currwently its lagging slighty when i tiwst the throttle from idle to full. its the idle speed.tickover i need to adjust. cheers for the help.

in plain english atm the idle is wank the bike struggles to stay alive on tickover. atm the mix screw is close to being perfect but there is a bit of lag when i blip the throttle however i have noticed it gets better when i turn it outwards. so tomo im going to turn the mix screw a turn to the left and get it setup proper and im going to turn the idle screw a turn or so to the left as i believe this makes the revs higher.

big screw inwards to raise revs... little screw outwards to remove the flutter when you rev ;)

just from what you said in your last post about the other screw thas all... read it back an tell me it dont sound like you turned the idle speed up LOL
