This weekend due to the $hite weather, I deep cleaned the aprilia, also took the variator apart and took a ganders at me clutch, all of which is stock standard, the clutch pads has a glaze so I got to scuffing the pads the bell, on the variator I removed the restriction washer, and popped it all back together again, now my acceleration is slow but steady up to 30, after that its a long drawn out affair to 40mph...this scooter used to be quite quick and 0-57mph seemed to be achievable under 20 seconds, What might I have done? This is a 97 aprilia sr50 lc stealth
Think I might have contaminated the variator with gt85, or at least the mating faceses, this would be from my hands when handling, time to tear down again....
Ha haaaaaa! Sussed it, I took what I thought was a restricting washer out, it wasn't, it was a shim, I'm very new to this variator lark, but I'm getting there, taking the shim out pushed the variator mating surface on the belt, bringing the rpm down before pull away, this being a race scooter, you can add or take away shims, but never fully remove, makes everything drag, 2t require high revs, 4t deosnt, everyday is school eh?
You have been a very naughty lad that's what you have done! na mate Thats what I won't strip my scoot down incase i break something or do a nasty! well sussed though
Cheers fella, it's a pretty simple form of gearing but each scooter has different qualities, I know it's tricky, jumping into the blue, but it is rewarding.
