Here's the schizzle with the carbon reeds that I have used in F1 powerboats, maybe scoots are the same?

We used to get our reeds made by a bloke that worked for boeing in the secret squirrel composite department. He was ACE! We used to photocopy a reed petal and fax them to him, he would scan and digitise it, dump it into his cnc mill and use a hunk of craftwood with reed sheet contact adhesived to it. Using a 1mm end cutter, the mill would cut the reeds out then he would soak the hunk of wood in secret reed release fluid (petrol) and we would get carbon reeds that you couldn't fuck with. Made great power and would last.

A few yrs ago his reeds would still make good power but would tip fray after one race!!

Eel contacted hin and delicately enquired, " what the fuck is going on with the reeds you masturbator of pigs!!!???"

Apparently, the process of making fuken excellent reeds involved releasing some toxic shit that either destroyed the ozone layer, turned parking inspectors into crossdressers or gave dolphins breast cancer or something similar.

The Yank environmental protection agency (epa) banned that process.

Hence, we are stuck with high maintainence reeds.

Here's a trick. Instead of running holes for the reed screws, run slots. As the tips fray, move them forewards in the slots and file the frayed tips off.

i can still make reeds this way... got 3 cnc machines at work all geard up for wood/plastic LOL the trick is to use slightly thinner reed material than you would normanlly run then dip in another coat of resin... superglue works LOL

but ye, ether keep ontop of them or run fibreglass/metal reeds...
