Fitted a new variator with 8.5 gram rollers and set the carb to 1.25 turns out as recommended for initial setup. Just taken her for a test run. Bit sluggish up to about 25 mph then by crikey she flies! Got her up to 50 no probs. My question is: What can I do to make it a bit better from stand still and would she go any faster if I upped the jet?
Lower your roller weight down to between 4.5 and 5.5, give the carb a clean and clean the air box/filter. And do you have a performance exhaust fitted?
Sounds like your on a similar setup to me, and yeh give those a try for now but if your looking for a noticeable difference i'd try between 4.5 and 5.5 and also try a boost bottle, only about 10£ and they increase throttle response in and out of traffic, may be a good idea if set off isnt too good
Cheers for that. I'll give the 7.5 a try and see what happens. Did you upjet yours for the exhaust? Standard on mine is 72 and got a 74 in at the moment. Not heard of boost bottles but I'll certainly look into it. Not looking for out and out wheelie power. Just want it a bit smoother from the off.
Yes mine has been upjetted but I couldn't tell you to what exactly because I didnt actually do it myself. With rollers and jets and things like that it is never the same for any two bikes, its just a case of trial an error, you have to try many different combinations over roller weight jet size and when you've got the right setup, you will be able to tell straight away!
I know I'm definitely heading in the right direction. Couldn't get it over 30 the other day. I'll change the rollers first then deal with the jet later. Thanks for the advice.
No problem, let me no how you go on with the speedfight, you thinking of any modifications or once you get it going well are you keeping it at that?
Just want to get it running right first. Only paid 100 quid for it so it's not exactly gonna win any shows and I'm not into fancy bits. Probably leave it as it is to be honest.
Forget wasting your money on a boost bottle, they may have some effect on a two stroke fitted with a disc valve but on a reed valve engine theyre about as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike.
I'll take your word for it with the boost bottle coz I've no clue about them. But my ashtray self-empties at 5 mph. Quite ingenious.
Thanks for the heads up on boost bottles mate!, always wondered exactly what the deal was with 'em.mk. .
I've fitted the 7.5 rollers now. Acceleration is a bit better than before but I lost about 5 mph on the top speed. I've upped the jet to an 80 and that has given me the top speed back and a little more! Now does an eye-watering 52 mph (indicated speed). Much better than the 30 mph max I was getting last week.
just to let you know 4 to 5g rollers are too light for standard peugeot engines as standard roller weight is 9g so 7.5 is about right, i know this from my vivacity fitted 5g it was waaaaay to light
Rems, do you know much about the Peugeot engines in terms of tuning? I have a speedfight 3 fully de-restricted and its stopping dead flat at 40mph. I know this isn't its top speed because when I first purchased the bike about 2 months ago it was doing 48-50mph on a flat, any ideas?
