Hey, I have a slight problem. I noticed the other day that my water level was very low, also there was a puddle in my garage, now this was left in my garage for a few days whilst I was away. I topped up the water level with anti-freeze etc.

I went to College & got back and it was low again. So obviously there was a leak. then I noticed that underneath the water pump there is a pre-dilled hole, there is no threads in there from what I can see but water slowly drips out of there. I don't quite know what the hole is for, maybe its a bleed or overflow hole? I dont know.

But I had my engine & water pump rebuilt a few weeks ago.. wonder if its linked to that! :-/

Basically the hole is in the bottom of a little chamber that is supposed to stay dry. So when water comes out, you can tell that the water pump seals have gone because water is going where is isn't supposed to.

Hope that makes sense, but yeah just get a water pump repair kit and you'll be sorted :)

I didn't actually do it! My father did, he's a mechanic so I thought he would do a better job than what I would.

Do you think I'll be able to fix it without another kit? It can't have broke within like 1 month!

Why not just take a look and make sure all the seals are still in place and haven't moved.

But tbh it's not unheard of for aftermarket parts to be faulty

I took it all off and it seemed to look fine? I honestly don't know what is going wrong. The water pump repair kit I bought before had a different impeller, the blades were higher than the ones I got on there now and when I tried fitting it the casing would not go back on there properly.

Should I buy a new one? I dont really want to pay another £20 and have it do the same a few weeks later?

Btw does anyone know of some pictures of what the inside of the water pump should look like? I'm almost positive i've done it right though!

    it should go like this

    impeller
    seal
    bearing
    copper washer
    bearing
    cog
    circlip

and also if it is the wrong impeller it may be slightly thinner and will leak ....
and also order one from psn they are 8£ and are good quality

If it is the same as the image it will not fit. The impeller blade's are too high. the ones I have on there now are around 5mm high and they are double that probably. It's annoying me because I never had a problem with the old water pump but we replaced it just because we rebuilt the engine and wanted everything new and working.

The first one was closer, all the parts look right except for that impeller! It's only those 3 blades that obviously push the water around, maybe I will file them down a little so the casing fits?

Bit unrelated, but your sig says that you are stuck at 40mph with a big bore kit.

You say the rollers and variator are standard, does that mean you haven't taken it apart?

I have taken it apart, I've just never really bothered to try different rollers :) And there is no variator restrictor
