runner 125 sr 125 typhoon 125 runner vx 125 dragster 125 there the most common scoots reliable i think i have had 3 out the 5 and had no problems and allso tune very well if thats what your looking 4.
If it's mainly for work use ditch the 2stroke scooters, go for a 4T or some sort maybe a runner Vx or even a Vespa GTS125. It's all good having a 2T runner, typh, drag etc etc but i would never have one for an everyday use work scooter never, if you want a solid workhorse and dont want to worry about it getting stolen go down the 4T route. I have owned two GTS125's and now own a GTS300 and even though they dont look sporty they last forever and go on and on and on, and they will do 65-70mph (125 version))
If you need a scooter purely for work then get something in production now,it's all very well saying get a runner/typhoon/dragster/sr125 but remember that these are now 10 years out of production, all have been thrashed, spares are available but are being phased out. A nice 4t scooter from the likes of Honda, Kymco or SYM will work fine and are very reliable, as good as any piaggio product.
2 stroke fanatic myself, but had afew 4's that would just...not...b....y die!, best go for a 4t - along the lines of japanese with a bit of a decco at others. You did'nt hapoen to mention what sort of distance you need it for/outside work use!.
£1000 isn't much. The only 125cc scooters you can get new for that are Chinese ones. But I'd recommend getting a second hand one from a good brand if you want a reliable machine that will last. Just make a list of second hand bike shops near you and try some. Be careful of Peugeot scooters since some of them are just Chinese scooters with a Peugeot badge slapped on. If it's a Peugeot then you'd best check it on reviewcentre.com to see if it's got good reviews or not.
Ow,£1000 not much - least the geezers hearts in the right place!. .,,avoid chinese as it sounds there not at a stage that makes them a competant bike to buy at present till they up their game. There alot of good 125's about, not the bike i'd consider 'my' preference but from experience/get yourself a 125 honda.
I guess its just how you ride it, I had a husqvarna 125 2 stroke 2006, I coverd 6k miles on it without 1 problem would start first time everytime.
A well known popper scooter shop in Leicester has a Piaggio skipper st125, 02" plate scooter with less than 200 miles on the clock! apart from a few skuffs on the side it's like brand new, and I mean new! I'm sure he said it was around £1000.
I would go for a 2 stroke....they may be few out there that have been thrashed but theres still a few decent 1s out there..plus they do hold the price so u will get ure money back when u come to selling it..1000 should get u something decent..
I'd say 4's more reliable (whisper),2's certainely more fun/but watch out it has'nt been tuned in any! way as that will invalidate your insurance if not declared + possibly taxation class (this can be difficult to i.d. as purpose hidden - i.e. no cc on cyl.,etc.).
