Vespa LX50 exhaust pipe technical jargon...help!!

Im in the middle of sorting out a new exhaust for my LX50. A local garage have emailed me the following: -

Hi

Genuine Piaggio exhaust £216.79 +vat with recirculation pipe.

Sito exhaust without recirculation pipe £106.38 + vat may require up jetting.

This could be completed on a Saturday fitting would be charged at our normal rate. I would expect approx.. £20 providing all the bolts come out without too many problems.

These would have to be ordered from Europe.

What does the recirculation pipe do, what is up jetting and can I just go for the cheaper option?

 

It sounds as though your bike has an engine designed to meet Euro 2 emissions standards, just like my Peugeot. You are better off with the Sito pipe and this will need the main jet size increase by 4, to correct for the fuel mixture. For example, if your bike has a 82 main jet, it will need an 86 jet with the Sito pipe and the recirculation pipe can be blanked off, as it's redundant.
