Right, I've got some hefty 8g rollers in my Multivar variator at the moment and its has dud acceleration.

I've got lighter rollers, from which I had in the old variator, these are 4g, which I want to put but im thinking might be too light...?!

My main problem is getting the nut off...

Now I havent seen any variator locking tools for the Katana's probably because no-one can be arsed to make one! But does anyone know of a site which actually has one, I've tried Beedspeed and most of the german sites but haven't found anything apart from a universal tool. This one below:

I've heard this doesn't work too well, but if it does can anyone actually tell me if it will work?

My only other options are an impact gun and a screw driver in the gearing with a wrench! But I know these arent the best ways and I dont really want to try it as my vari nut is kinda burring down anyway!

    Any help, much appreciated...

    Cheers Pricey. :D

impact gun is the best tbh

easy and no grabbing or wedging of the variator

Cheers mate, I did seem like its not actually that harmful to use the impact gun, butttt, I would like a variator locking tool, would make life so much easier and I would probably have to pay a garage to use the impact gun!

Any one else got any ideas?

Make a locking tool; all you need to do is make some form of plate with at least 2, preferably 3 bolt holes in a triangle so you can secure to the crankcase where the transmission case bolts on. Bit of 5mm plate alloy, bit of patience with a Junior Hacksaw and file and your sorted.

I'm not too sure if the Electric Starter Motor drives the crank through teeth on the outer variator pulley, if so you can make matching teeth to grip and hold the outer pulley (long time since I stripped a katana transmission). Or as others have suggested the Impact Gun is a good option but this can kill mains, threads & splines etc if in the wrong hands ;)
