From my past experience a variator would only crack if its been put under such high pressure for a long period of time, also if the variator bolt came off then that would crack it. personaly i wouldnt use it. For the price they are i would always buy them brand new

its on the outer edge so if you get a variator and put it face down so your looking at the back plate the outer edge of the variator is what is cracked. so when on a engine its the edge closest to the engine

i'd be tempted to email Malossi with the photos and see what they say. Might even replace it FOC. Theres no way that should happen. They look like stress fractures from the pics and its not as if that section of the part takes any abuse in any way

to be honest its second hand you dont know what its been put under. I have to ask but did u not look at it before u bought it  Also i wouldnt use it because they are quite hard to crack so to me they only really crack under high temp of being held on full throttle for a long period of time. i would not exspect that from malossi though. Just dont use it and buy another tbh

proberly heat and to much stress to be honest. There tough items so unless they were put under alot of stress they wouldnt break

Yup stress fractures, fault in manufacturing, I wouldn't trust it, last thing you want is the variator throwing a hissy fit and fill the housing up with bits of alloy, like has been said, contact malossi, email photos( sort out focusing, the clearer the better) these parts are for racing, built to take high pressure. :D

only problem with that is you cant get a good clear picture because of how shiny it is i tried everything i could think of and these are the best pics i could get
also because i got it second hand from a member on here i have no idea how old it is or if that model is even made anymore for all i know its a old design that was prone to it. and i cant do anything to other way with the seller as he isn't replying to my pm's anymore

just incase i go down the malossi route does anyone have a good email contact for them or is it just gonna be the customer services address on there website ?

customer services, but its second hand there not going to do anything about it. If you ordered it from them then yes maybe, but i highly doubt they will do anything. Atleast you learnt not to buy second hand parts anymore ay :p this is what i was saying in my previous post. Variators are quite cheap i dont know why you bought a second hand one. Well thats just me i like my stuff new :L Good luck anyway mate
