    AC Piaggio 50 short case

I've replaced the transmission cover (not touched variator at all) and the variator fan is rubbing the half gear pretty bad..to the point where the scraping almost makes as much noise as the engine  too scared to run it more than a few seconds at a time

It looks exactly the same as the old side cover. Interestingly if I put the old one back on the noise goes away!

    Anyone run into this?

From a man trying to get to Barnard Castle:p

    Strange...
    Never seen that before.
    Make a gasket maybe?

Is the circlip fell off kickstart shaft allowing it to move into the fan ?

Try to put some washers between the case and the engine. See if the noise disappears and you still can use the kick.

The circlip looked a bit mangled, so probably not doing what it should. I barely use it so made most sense to just remove the whole kickstart for the time being but a gasket of some sort would have been a good fix

Never realised how important 2 grams of metal could be!

I don't think they make a belt cover gasket for that engine........
As Marsh says, put a new circlip on the kickstart shaft for the first try, then look at the height of the new fan compared to the old one.
