Hi, I'm thinking of buying a can of seafoam as I think my engine could do with the flush out, I believe it gets rid of gunk and helps the overall performance? Is this true? My moped sometimes cuts out when using the throttle so I think it is because of the carbulator and needs to be cleaned. Should I get some? Thanks
i wouldnt bother, just whip your carb off and clean it all out, its pointless to use seafoam on a small engine, i wouldnt even use it on my V4....
Maybe not so pointless if like me he has no idea how to "whip his carb about and clean it" and then stick it all back together. At the OP I would just stick some premium petrol in the tank on the next fill up and spray some carb cleaner into the air intake and see if it improves.
that's why its worth learning! please don't use seafoam! Ive seen so much damage caused by it! it wont do a small engine any good at all.. trust me I know.. been there done that worn the tshirt etc etc... I fucked up a 50cc 4 stroke by putting the stuff in.. that's how I learnt for myself... seafoam is nothing but shite... I hate the stuff and have good reason to too! ever rebuilt a 6.0L powerstroke Ford F350 engine? nope... trust me you don't want to and I had to do a complete rebuild on one.... ive seen them destroy taxi engines too... ford transit engines oh and ive found leftovers of the shit in a ford fiesta engine.... for the love of god... theres lots of videos on youtube that can help you learn, hell theres threads on here too.... we will do anything to help you LEARN to strip and clean a carb... just please don't use the seafoam shite!
Of course taking it out and doing it right is better but I would suggest doing the lazy way and seeing if it improves. Nothing is going to be better than fully taking apart the carb and soaking it all in carb cleaner and what not. I'm not trying to claim I know better than you I barely know a thing I came to this forum for help myself but if like me he doesn't have another scooter as a backup and needs the only one he's got to get to work everyday then simply taking it apart and hoping he can do it isn't going to be a very good idea because he won't even be able to drive it to a mechanic when he inevitably screws it up.
just spraying it with carb cleaner would be the better way to do it, that additive stuff with tolurine is the best bet for lazy carb cleaning though, just wack some in the tank and carry on as normal (and enjoy the higher revs!)
Its strange how the reviews of this seafoam stuff is totally mixed, someone people swear their life on it that it works great and others spit on it's name.
