URGENT SR 50 CARB CDI HELP PLEASE

hey guys, got myself a cdi that is restrictable at the flick of a switch. how do i fit it to the bike? my old cdi is in one bulk with the coil, and has a green, white, and red wire going to it. the new cdi has just a red wire and a black wire with a ring end (for battery i presume?)
what goes where?
i tried replacing different wires with the red one going into the standard cdi box, wouldnt start, so i wrapped the red wire of the NEW cdi, round the red wire of the OLD cdi, and connected them. it runs but s this right? havent tried adjusting it yet to get the restriction as it was dark when i finished. help appreciated!

red wire will go to red wire on the oringinal cdi and black wire will go to battery mate so then u can switch it off and on then everything needs a 12v power and a ground make sure black wire goes to negative side of battery
