Hey guys ,i already have a 172 typhoon with some other parts like 25mm carb ,gear up mallosi rollers ,Gianelli freeway exhaust and boost bottle.I got bored last night and i went onto the scooter center web site in Germany and i bought a list of stuff and i need some advice on building my monster.i bought: Another new Malossi 172 kit new oil pump new crank bearing and seals BGM 55mm crankshaft w/ spacer Gilera runner cdi, flywheel and coil Is there anything i need to build my project? p.s Can anyone give me the torque specs for the head bolts :yahoo:
You will have to get someone to port the barrel to match the 55mm crank as all the port timings will be wrong. Torque the head nuts to 18 ft lbs or 21 Nm.
it entails around £300 and you may aswell get the cases flowed wile your there if you dont get the ports corrected you may aswell leave it stock as you will be going slower than standard steve
Hey Minor which ports needs to be ported and by how much as i got a really good machinist down here in my country who does great machine work and any details on this will be greatly appreciated
That"s not the attitude my friend .This is a forum where u ask questions because you dont know and i am new to this .I live all the way in the caribbean and i need to have this done .You making it sound like is a personal question that i am asking.I have spent loas of money on this project and i need to do this right and sorry if i offended you.
He has a point though? Why would someone give you the information for free when it's a service you have to pay for? Only for you to take that information and give it to someone who you will then pay to do the work. If you were say doing it yourself and you generally knew what you were doing then it would be fine to give you a few tips to help you on you way... In actual fact the information you are after is already on the forum and has been written quite a few times but don't expect someone just to hand it out so you can go and pay someone to do it who should really know what they are doing enough not to need guidance from an online forum.
Well excuse me as i didn't know it was information to be paid for .Now i understand what you are say but i live all he way in Dominica and these parts are coming from Germany. How am i going to get someone who knows all about this to facilitate me? Maybe i should send it to the UK and by that time it will cost me the price of the bike for shipping alone lol
you ether find a tuner BEFOR you go buying parts that need to be corrected, or stick to things you can build yourself... ive sent kits all over the world. as i said, if your machinist is actually worth trusting with the most expensive part in your engine he SHOULD allready know what he's doing, if not why the hell is he touching it? fact is you havent tried to talk to a tuner (or even the shop you bought the part from) about the work... youve just jumped into it, then jumped on a forum to let the unpaid contributors pick the slack up. for that reason ima say it once more figure it out yourself
Why do you have to be so harsh. What you figure, because u know your stuff ,u got to have this attitude ? Anyways thanks alot man .I am a proud owner of a full built forged 1.5 Toyota gt turbo starlet and and im a member of a forum in the UK and even the tuners and members give tip and interact nicely with one another .As a founding member of this site you got an attitude problem cause you figure we are at this mercy of you because you know your stuff but carry on my friend "run your show" and like you said ,i will figure it out.
no, im agitated by this as i do this sort of thing for people, for a price.. i dont however feel the need to explain all the things ive found out myself.. why should i? ye you have a blah blah with a blah blah and all the tunners on the forum's told you everything you need to know. most 2 stroke tuners dont go near a forum, let alone let out all the work they spend good money/time finding out. why the hell should i tell people things that puts money in OTHER PEOPLES POCKETS?!?!?! garantee the BIG tunners into toyotas (ie the racers and so on) dont share half the work thats gone into there engines... dont give out port profiles, dont explain durations on custom cams, dont tell you clutch and crank offset balancing figures and so on. if you want my help porting your cylinder then send it to me and pay me some money... otherwise ask whoever you like, its up to them if they tell you or not. i doubt they will. if you were grabbing a dremmel and doing this yourself id plain tell you not to... or if you were REALLY insistant id give tyou some pointers.. my quibble is your paying somebody else to do the job... yet they dont know how to.... too much information is dangerous, especially in the wrong hands.. and i for one am NOT dealing with another "you told me to do this now it fucked up" thread thanks verry much as i am NOT responcible nor obliged to help anyone, especially so called professionals.
theyre trying to explain to you that this kit is worth a lot of money, dont send it to someone who hasnt a clue what theyre doing, it wont work. theyre not going to help line the pockets of a machinist who has no clue and is stealing other's work as such and we arent obliged to give out any information, dont expect it or take it forgranted
to be fair mate minor has a point nobody is going to tell you port mesurements and tell you how to do a job they make money off and if i was you send your parts to somone who knows about them your man could be the best machinist in the world but unless he knows the sizes to make the ports and which ones to change hes usless for the job and you say you dont want to pay the postage to send it halfway round the world to minor but im sure it will be cheaper than fixing your bike arfter it goes bang because the job was not done properly. i do strongly advise against letting anyone that is not clued up to the job do the work though but that is just my opinion its your bike your money and your choice
Do you need the port measurements to tell the machinist what needs to be ported and what not? If that's all then i don't see the problem telling you cause the machinist might not particularity know about scooters but might be the type of person who just needs measurements and then can do the job?
