my mates got a speedy 100cc, and its engines been fully rebuilt with new parts. The problem he is having with it, is that its killing spark plugs? Weve chaanged the plug for brand new ones every time and after about a day they sstill spark, but wont fire the engine up. Also when it is running it will work for a few mile then cut out, then work for a short while then cut out again. Ive checked and replaced everything to my knowledge and im baffled right now. Can anyone give me a clue? Thanks

haha yeah they are rubbish like but his spark plugs are going black straight away, dont understand why as its jetted properly? Tried 2 different coils and ht leads and end caps both with same results.

i would just try down jetting it slightly and see if that sorts it my plug looked fine and seem to be jetted right but the mechanic down jetted it and all was sorted

tried up jetting, down jetting, different rollers, new gaskets, new piston, new reedblock, different heat spark plugs, new coil, new exhaust, new air filter. After all this it still doesnt work properly. Was out on it earlier works perfect if you sit at 35mph. If i go over that and especially over 50mph for a few minutes it just cuts out. Phoned a shop and they said its an electrical fault. Dont understand why as it worked fine when standard. But standard exhaust cracked so bought a new tecnigas pipe and thats where the problems started.

    good old techni-wank exhausts lol

uurm i ent got a clue does it cut out totally at 50+ or does it pop and try start back up? if your not sure get a visual stark tester from halfords (a little red cap you fit onto your starkplug) and ride it till it cuts out and watch the tester to see if its the electrics that are giving up at high speed you might have a bad earth somewere, what oil you using, do you pre-mix?

I know its unlikely but could it have anything to do with the cdi/regulator? and is the plug gapped correctly? both probably highly unlikely but worth a try, had a mate whos speedfight would cut out over 35mph and it was cos his cdi was bad and when I pulled the plug it wasn't gapped correctly

I call em tecniwanks aswell haha, it cuts out fully at 50 and refuses to start unless you leave it. Sounds like an overheating problem but it shouldnt be overheating all the cooling fan and cases are fine and on properly. He does premix but he still has the pump aswell, and me and him both use Rock Oil as recommended by our motocross mechanic.

when you say gapped correctly do you mean the length of the spark plug or the gap between the electrode and pick up on the spark plug?

doesn't matter if theyre new, still should get gapped to correct spec (mines 6m I think) just one of those small things I was taught when I started doing bikes
