Theresa May wants to make it illegal to run 2 strokes as of January 2017.

Anyone know anymore on this, seems to have gone quiet?

    Just the media stirring?

I thought the aussies were reinventing two strokes in marine engines with fuel injection and making them the engine of the future.

Like i am really going to just scrap a twostroke and make a huge loss , get a grip UK GOV.

Time to KIT UP - RIDE OUT and have a MONTH of full on noise pollution every day for 12hrs

I will swap my little twostroke of a lovely brand new registered GSX-R 125 if the govs willing to pay for it and the years tax ticket and the years insurance cost . Otherwise its staying where it is and i will enjoy it when i like .

Itll never happen. Its just more media hype to get people to do one of two things. 1) be angry with goverment 2) buy a brand new 4 stroke. Does the round each and every year. Its just like they were saying under 21`s wont be aloud to ride/drive. It will not happen. Unless the goverment themselves say it, The chances are. It isnt happening!

There is no messing to keep them going, my typhoon is coming up to 57,000kms on the original crank!

cons of a fourstroke : 3000km oil swap and valve check adjustment , slow pace to get to a fast speed ( unless your drafting or bored up or have super variator tunage)

cons of a twostroke : lifting the seat every week to fill back up with twostroke oil

A £5 3000km oil swap as opposed to burning at least £3-£5 of oil in a two stroke every week... Bit of a no brainer. I haven't adjusted my valves in 3 years and the bike runs just fine. Out accelerates the average car on the road that's for sure its top speed is where it suffers but I don't own a 125 for its top speed.

It would kill a massive industry and make hundreds of people unemployed.
But it would make the likes of Malossi/Athena/Stage6 etc look more a 4 stroke tuning.

This has been on the cards for years hence mainly four strokes being produced.
This article is a spoof but eventually you'll just have the collectors/ enthusiasts running them.
If they then become a "historic" type vehicle with the amount left on the road and only used now and then will make banning unnecessary.
Having said that there are still a few companies looking at 2 strokes and the technology does exist to have a 2 stroke that doesn't have the oil mixing with the fuel.
They no longer exist but a guy called Bernard Hooper invented a "top hat" piston engine for Norton years ago (Norton Wulf) where the gases were transferred by using the "rim" of the piston to transfer the gases to the opposite piston so the oil wasn't needed to lubricate the bearings as it didn't go through the crankcase.
Of course things have moved on and with injection and/or a valve 2 strokes can be made smoke free.
