Wats hapnin people! Got myself a typhoon 125 98 a little while ago had a slight problem when i first got it which was sorted out but ive got another problem now, i start my bike in my garden and let it warm up abit and then take it out and go, but for the last week everytime i go to move it out from my garden it makes a dodgy grinding noise, sounds disgusting and ive got my helmet on. I havent bothered till now and ive still been riding it rides fine, no noise when when riding...what do you guys think it will be? I dont want to continue riding it and have the engine seize on me at 50, flip me off my bike.. i still gotta make kids.

One more thing, ive been searching this forum and have read a couple posts about the same model typhoon talking about the crank, ive read that finding a new crank to fit this 1998 typhoon 125 is hard work,or have i misread? If not...there must be another crank that fits. Mine is completely standard except for malossi airfilter and appropriate upjet..until tonight, ive got a brand new mikuni vm20 coming. Do they come with standard jets already in? If i have to get my own can someone please guide me in the right direction for the standard set up ones ...im a noob people but im tryna get right involved lol

There's no problem with cranks, the carb uses a 6mm main jet (86 std) and you'll need at least a 90-92 jet using the std airbox (yes they work perfect), open filter you might need a bigger jet but I would use the std airbox. As for the noise, have a good look round, it might be rust build up on the front disc? clutch?

Thanks marsh, which crank should..or can i go for. Ive heard mazuchelli cranks(if thats how you spell it) wont fit...something about bigger webbing...a german website wants 300 euros for a piaggio one and even then i dont know if it will fit

It's the flywheels that catch on early engines (diameter), your's should be ok. Top racing cranks are worth looking at, I've used them with no problems. Why do you need to change the crank?

Oh ok sweet thats a relief mate, wouldve been headache if i had to search for a specific one,so any 52mm is fine? And i dont need to but its a 98 plate and had nothing changed except for piston and cylinder from what i was told...So i ordered a few parts..variator,rollers,belt,clutch,pulley,oil belt,carb... should i bother changing it or just leave it till i have to? And what else to buy that i havent stated if im looking to refurbish it? Also this problem with the grinding, rumbling noise when i move the bike is only there when the bike is running, god knows what it is but defo not the disk, ive ordered one anyway..might aswell. One more thing ppl, an hour ago i went to kick start the bike and the lever just bounced back up and hit my foot lool,it did start and run the same as usual though,is this just me kickin it rong or is something the matter..could just be me and my dodgy lefty behaviours

Marsh you sure that a new crank will fit in my typh, im also reading all over this site that pre 2000 engines have a rubbish crank and no aftermarket cranks will fit, its an s reg...also read something minor said about it being fine if it has the new engine number place rather than the old one heres a couple pics let me know please.

I have that engine in one of my Typhoon's, mine is an x reg 2000 but that engine, non rolling nut small drum. I'm 99.9% sure it will be ok. If your in any dought you could buy a later rolling nut engine and I'll take that engine off your hands, It's not a problem to have them machined if there to small!

99.9% sounds good mate, ill grab one..see a 52mm top racing for 120,sounds good.. but having to machine the case is just long, just spent shitloads on a ready running bike cause im ocd lol, spending more than what ive already figured in my head. Anyone else here that can help me in finding out wether a new crank will fit this, not that i doubt your word marsh your like the typhoon master on here lool but just need to be sure.

If you intend stripping the engine anyway you have nothing to lose, just measure the diameter of the crank flywheels when it's in bits ! I know for a fact that early non rolling nut runner engines don't have a problem and they are basically a l/c typhoon engine.

They only made two types of engine as far as I'm aware, you have the early type (small drum). The only way you'll know is if you strip it down, if it's ok then leave it but if you want to fit a performance crank then your've got to strip it anyway!

I have read a lot that there are 3 series, here's a post clarifying http://www.scootershack.co.uk/threads/piaggio-series-1-engine.16210/... I'm sure someone can tell me just by lookin at the pics of the engine as they did for this person on the thread I linked....hopefully it's fine me linking threads, surely it needs a new crank either way it's a 98 s reg and if a new one can be fitted then it's fine...if not then I'd rather sell it before stripping and wasting time
