I bet this crops up alot on the forum but i was just wondering if you could tune a typh 50 to race standard what speed are you looking and also what would the best kit to buy eg malossi 70cc etc etc sorry if this is asked alot? and another questions what year did the engines change in the typhs what where the biggest changes? cheers
the typh's changed on the t reg i belive... can tell from the tranny cover wich engine type it is. the old shape has a smaller clutch pulley and dodgy gear shaft/bearings (im stuck wiht one atm) speed is speed... 20bhp typh running stock gears will go just as fast as a stocker at the same rpm. just accelerate ALOT quicker.. wiht a couple long gear ups they CAN push 90+ BUT 99.99% of 70's in the uk do NOT have the power to pull anywhere neer that. single gear up (30%) and a few of the right matched parts and you will be seing a true 70 ish... MAX
My typh Frame is on a V 99 so this should be the new engine type? but i have a typh 50cc engine not from this scoot and it has a engine number TEC2M and on the log book for the V 99 frame it said it had a engine of TEC3M? its just on websites it say 98 parts or 99 onwards so i bit confused of which parts to buy for it pre 99 or 99 onwards
Does anyone have a pre 1998 typh with log book just to have a look at the engine number to see what it starts with TEC2M etc etc
ye old shape engine.... same as mine. all the same EXCEPT the gears are diff, the rear pulleys are also diofferent, the belts are SLIGHTLY shorter. other than this any part for a 50cc typhoon will fit fine. can fit a new shape engine but theres no real need unless your going all out tunning wise. the small rear pulley meses wiht the usual roller weights (had me scratchin my head befor i actually messured things that i thought would be the same... never assume) but ye. look about, many threads on ac piggy 50's (including my project on exactly the same bike... full case and a few diff barrels in there so go projects and look for "long awaited transport"
Thanks minor for the help a real help cheers I was thinking of going all the way all 21bhp is it worth keeping the engine? what would say is the best set up for 21 bhp polini malossi 21mm carb etc? pm tunning exhaust etc etc has anybody wrote a guide for best set up for 21bhp
personaly if i were u id take a differnt approch. ur not gonna be seeing 21bhp without spending some serious p and are u willing to be doing rebuilds every 1k?
21bhp? buy a polini evo engine... sorted. built for you, slips straight in.. 2 grand will last a month on the road (around 1000k like dys said, less if its long rides) why 21bhp? surely just buy a 125 and 172 it.... 172 25mm carb and a pipe is 20+bhp RELIABLE power... for up to 20,0 miles trouble fre (plug reeds rollers a belt mabey rings here an there) BIG power 70's are WICKED fun, but NOT for road use.... feel fre tho, i ignor my own advice all the time, fact is i can afford to blow barrels up weekly. can you?
Funny thing now its just a frame a all the bits in a box well i fancy a quick little 70cc i think it would be alot of hassle gettin a 125 just would have to sell mine etc so ill stick with the 50 but i was just wondering bout the 21 bhp thats all? i can cope with 12bhp or 16bhp not over bothered with reliablity cos all ready have a vespa so do my long runs on that i just want a bit of fun on the old typh so i fancy tuning it right up whats stage 6 kits like? really like the look of the evo engine but 2k maybe a little steep at the moment LOL
ok first off... steer clear of the lesser used tunning companys (those that dont actually have race teams racing scooters....) malossi, polini and the like are the best kits your going to get for your dosh as far as not having to touch them atall befor fiting where as other kits need tidying up and use lesser grade materials/poorer production process altho even the mid range polini and malossi stuff isnt really too tidy when you really start looking at them, but thats nether here nor there best bet is see what the stock crank is saying, if its fine slap on an iron kit and a pipe of suitable/future use... ride it till it blows and then decide on further upgrades... bearing in mind it will probably blow up quicker next time (if its the barrel thsat go's not the crank obv) second barrel you should really upgrade the crank.. at this point you decide how wacky you want to go wiht it. get a simple idea of whats possible wiht them, also how to setup things as you go, bit by bit, a little at a time. this way you wont have a nightmare of a bike you cant figure what jets/rollers/blah blah. i had trouble wiht my one of these engines untill i noticed the rear pulley diameter...
