Right i plan on cutting the stem off my typh forks cos there wank and cutting the stem off a pair of vx forks to weld the typh stem on so that i still have my steering lock and no bodged frame. I dont want to cut the frame down, so how you would go about cutting the stem off the typh forks and welding onto vx forks? I can get this done at work for free but struggling to think of the best way to go about doing it. Opinons?
i guess youd have to chop it off pretty much and make some sort of jig to reattach it striaght seems awfully bodge tbh...better than hacking the frame up tho i suppose
The vx forks are to long to start with unless you can have the legs poking out the top of yoke. And if i remember correct, the steering lock cutout is wrong! Anyway if you are going to do, i do it like this:- Measure the typhoon stem then measure again, cut the stem off at 45 degrees (more surface area to weld to) half way down, do the same to the runner stem leaving plenty of stem to play with. Turn down a solid steel bar so it's snug in the stem, then just eye it up so the cut out at the back of the stem (handle bar lining up cut out) is right, then weld it up. It may sound like a bodge but it works and will not break, i've done a few sets of forks for my typhoon. I'm using nrg power forks at the moment, runner 50 are also good to use as they are only about 10mm longer than typhoon.
