Hi all iv been havin a few problems with my 2t zip iv recently fitted a race carb and im havin problems getting it to run right, can anybody shed some light on the situation?
Need to be more specific, settings on the carb, size of carb, airbox(filter), jets?, other mods to bike. also what problems are you encountering?
Hi sorry for late response have been on holiday, basically its got a tt race pipe a tnt delorto race carb with 98 jet and a mushroom filter as this is what was recommended but i don't seem to be having much luck it starts but doesn't tick over right and doesn't pull of well then has a burst of power then if i let throttle of it keeps reving and if i rev it it bogs down then goes
It sounds to me like you have an air leak somewhere. Any scoot that doesn't tick over correctly is getting air from elsewhere than the throat of the carb. Did you use fresh gaskets & silicone engine sealant when you installed the TNT race pipe ? You cannot tune an engine if it has a leak. Lord knows I've tried.......... Good luck -
The pipe was already on the bike when i bought it however it was taken off for a new back tyre, could that be the problem
If it's irregular on tickover and the carb is difficult/impossible to regulate - that would be the first place I'd look. This is how I go about it: Hose the case down with white spirit & scrub around the reed box with a tooth brush to remove any crap. A burst of compressed air helps. Do this before removing the carb & airbox - or remove the carb & stuff everything with tissue so no crud gets either in the carb or in the engine. Remove the whole shebang - Pipe, reed box - everything. Clean the box, the pipe etc with white spirit & a toothbrush. Wash everything with washing up liquid & water after using white spirit. Sealant does not stick to white spirit. In fact white spirit unsticks sealant. This is why it's so good for washing crap off parts. Dry everything. I blow through the reed box & then use a hairdryer on it. Clean the contact surface of the engine case where the reed box goes in - stuff the intake of the engine so no crap drops down in ther first.. I give the contact surface of the intake a wipe with acetone. Removes any oil/fuel. The sealant/gasket will make a better seal. Remove tissue from the admission - vacuum any crap before removing the tissue if there is any. Then use a fresh gasket under the reed box and sealant on both sides of the gasket - get an even layer with your fingers on both sides. Plop the reed box in (inspect reeds for damage) Then a thin film of sealant on the bottom of the pipe - & then put it all back together. Tighten by hand & oppositely. Make sure it's tight but don't strip anything ! Good luck. PS - you have a Zip so only two bolts on the admission stack. Not 4. All the more reason to use sealant & gaskets !
