On my speedfight, a lot of components of the engine have been replaced. When i turn the engine over its very slow whilst on a jump pack. Once i take spark plug out it spins faster. Also my belt goes loose, tight, loose, tight. Also no other way of starting it cos i dont have a kickstart. Any ideas?
cant put kickstart on because of the washer infront of the nut on the crank, and the jump pack always used to work first time, and battery is new.
as the starter motor is working with the plug out, it obviously isn't the relay, as long as the back wheel isn't turning, the clutch is dis-engaged. Which leaves a stiff engine or the starter motor is knackered/tired. I so suppose first thing, I would turn the engine round with the variator by hand, see how stiff it was, with the plug in, given that it turns with the plug out on the starter, would skip to ............... checking there was no electrical system drain, and check the wiring to the starter motor itself, clean the connections, as it is by the main stand and gets a lot of road salt thrown on to it ..................... but I think all this will pan out that the starter motor is on its way out. If it is for a 50, I think they are about £20, on the 100 about £35. the kick start dog/washer on the fan is about £ 3.50 for a new one, if that's all you need. But I can tell you now speedfight kick start mechs are a bad design and prone to failure, they need a lot of installation care when fitting a complete repair kit.
yeah ive had problems with speedfight kickstarts before, nut ive found the problem. The variator washer was missing so the variator was at angle. Thanks to my mate haha. All i need is this washer and it should be fine. By the way, can a ped be started with no variator? I know there will be no drive
the electric starter motor, drives a bendix, which engages on the teeth of the outer pulley/drive plate, if you don't have the variator in place, it will have nothing to engage with, in a word, no.
well if i dont have the variator on, and just put the pulley on, the bendix will catch that? I thought it would but it would be revving very fast!
it could be done, as there is a lip on the crank, after the splines. I took it that you were talking of running, none of the pulley at all.
