Trouble fitting flywheel cover on Gilera Runner 125 VX

I really have no idea where I am going wrong, nothing in the Haynes manual has helped me and no matter what I do to try and make it fit, it won't

The cover has 2 plastic bits to go on it but they are not attached yet. The exhaust is off and the exhaust bracket is loose. I have got it close but it still leaves about half an inch gap and the bolts can't help in any way. Now I have tryed to line up the 3 screws on the inside to go onto the inside of the casing in the 3 holes.

I must be going wrong somewhere, any help would be great
