i dont think it should tho, i belive this is an old shape engine wiht a new shape front gearset... what rear brake is on this engine?

ok... if its a 200mm drum then this is normal.. if you have a 108mm drum (small type) then this is not right... even if tis a drum wiht no lug's for a caliper its 99% wrong.. but saying this there ARE runner engines about wiht old shape gears, old shape covers and no caliper mounts.. as are there new shapes wiht no caliper mounts. we in england have the 2 usual types of engine (more commenly known as old shape and new shape... or the new ones wiht the hole in the transmission covers are called rolling nut engines commonly)

the shaft on the new shape engine moves in and out.. these dont have a bearing to support the input shaft as it has the support bearing in the case. i belive sombody has put the wrong imput shaft and gear plate on this engine.

get pics of the rest of the engine (prefebly the rear/side of the engine) ill sooon sniff to the bottom of your trouble, altho if theres a bearing behind the imput shaft (the one thats moving) in the engine itself then its gotta be an old shape engine as again the new shape engine (with this type of shaft) has a bearing in the gear cover plate and the transmission cover.

hmm.... it doesent havew lugs but is a big drum, still up in the air tbh. ill have to pull both types of engine apart and get a definitive on the bearingand shaft tyes. doesernt seem right.
