Been kneeling beside my Zip 50 2T all afternoon without success. It's a Dell'Orto PHVA 17.5 carb and I can't get the cable back onto the slide. Never come across this plastic white clip before and all it seems to do is get in the way, I think I have the parts in the correct order but the clip makes it near impossible to correctly locate the cables' nipple into the central recess on the underside of the slide. Has anyone encountered this horrible set-up before and managed to sort it out. Any tricks or tips would be really helpful. Thanks
That looks like some kind of springy thing. Have your tried with some tweezers or even better a set of needle nose pliers?
Yes we have it on our runner, you need to pull the spring back as much as possible so the cable and nipple are exposed then locate the nipple in to the correct position in the slide then the plastic bit will drop down inside the slide when you let go of the spring. then spin the slide until the raised bit on the white plastic retainer sits in the hole in the side of the slide
Hi Milo, Thanks for your advice, I'll give it another go tomorrow. Sam, Just what I was looking for, so you've been there and sorted the problem. The Haynes manual is a little vague, one of those, 'installation is the reverse of removal' instructions. Also makes you think what was wrong with the old 'W/M' clip. They used to be quite easy to do. Why do they have to change things? Anyway, the details you mention are spot on, I'll try again. Thank you.
No problem good luck. just a case of holding that spring and white retainer back while you thread the cable in to the slide the rest should follow
You are in the danger zone... You think you have the knack, but one time, when you least expect it... PING! Goodbye needle.... Dellorto: 1 Sam: 0
Hi gents, Apologies, haven't been able to work on the Zip yet but I hope to try again later. Fortunately I have a spare clip in case the original goes skyward. I will report back. Thanks
Hi, Well I made sure there was as much slack in the cable as possible, next I followed Sams instructions and.......the plastic clip took off into orbit. Joking. I think we have success, at the first attempt. The nipple is in the right place, the adjacent hole in the slide is blocked, the plastic clip appears to be square in the slide and the Zip started as usual. I will go for a short run later but I am a very happy bunny. Thanks to the forum members and especially to Sam for passing on his tried and tested method.
