the main thing i think is stupid is the 46bhp restriction at 19, which cant be from a bike over twice the 47 limit. so your limited to a 92bhp bike... just about every 600cc bike ive seen is slightly over! the only one ive seen is the suzuki bandit, which ive decided i want when im old enough
Im new to bikes (and to the forum, so hey all) and im a little confused here... Im 30 in 2 weeks and have a full car licence restricted to auto transmissions. Gives me provisional status on auto or manual bikes and because i have a valid cbt certificate i have full entitlement to 50cc bikes. I originally sat my cbt on a 125cc manual but im used to driving an auto car so I couldnt get the bite point right and ended up putting the bike down in the cbt trainig centre and dislocating my elbow. Once i was all healed up, i went back and completed the cbt on a 50cc automatic. Ive just bought a 125cc automatic which i will be riding with L plates. My plan was to get to grips with handling etc and when I was confortable with that, move onto a 125cc manual to sit the bike test. I was then planing to ride the same manual bike (assuming it didnt fall apart or anything) for 2 years, then look into getting a bigger bike once the licence restriction was lifted and id gained more experience. Can I still do that? I know I can sit the test on a 125cc, but does that mean that if I do I would need to sit a further two part test on a bigger bike before i could ride them?????
if your 30 you can do your direct access and ride whatever you like, youd have to do the test on summat like a 600 though
its easier to do your test on 600 because it has better acceleration and brakes, will fly trough mod 1
Thats the thing, right now I dont wana be anywhere near a 600 incase i put myself under a bus. I wanted to get a 125 so i could get used to a bike, pass the test on the 125 and get used to motorways and passengers on a bike i was familiar with and at a power / speed i was familiar with. Then after the two years restriction was up, i could move onto something a bit bigger, maybe a 600, but maybe something a little smaller like a 350 to start off with. Now Id have to do a test every time. I know I could get a 125, learn and ride on that with L plates and no instructor with radio contact, and take a few official lessons on a 600 and pass the test, then just limit myself to smaller bikes until I felt comfortable, and thats probably the route i will take now the new rules have come into play, but it just seems like a bit of a money grabbing scheme in my opinion.
yep u thinking right mate thats the way to go for you , and sure it is money washing i have already lost £700 because of them silly cun*s
If you can ride a geared bike it doesn't matter what size it is, it's all the same. I have never known anyone 19 years old to go out and buy a Hayabusa. People drive crazier on mopeds than superbikes a lot of the time. I just think it's all a waste of money. Years ago the bike test was so basic and the theory was very easy too. Should have done it long ago. Can't bring myself to pay for a full bike licence.
