I will soon be 69 years old & am wondering if im the only geezer posting here.... I bought my first "motorbike", a Raleigh moped... right around 50 years ago....walked into an auto parts store and there it was..behind the counter...paid $45 for it and it wasn't running. I took my new friend to a bike shop and the guys said they had never seen one....a little carb clean and ignition work and it was rarin' to go.. I had lots of open country roads to ride near my home & even an interstate highway that was under construction...miles & miles of open road...I would cruise along maybe 30 mph at most and smoke a cigarette... After a while I decided to take it apart and see if more speed was lurking inside...alas that was the end..it never went back together..i broke the rings I still have the motor in a box as a reminder not to let this happen again..
Plenty of wrinklies on here, it's surprising how many of the older generation are turning to scooters for transport, just for knocking around, instead of using a car or public transport.
Dude, age is irrelevant. I'm not going to post mine, but suffice to say I remember when Blondie was in the top 10...... Get some new rings and fire up!
mark bolan was still alive when i was a teenager..still remember the day i heard a new group called"queen" didn't think theyde last.
dark side of the moon and ted nugentwas my firsts, then i left home and went wild.calmbed down a bit late eighties, nearly normal now.???
Its a wake-up call to admit im nearing 70 ....had an older sister passed on at 78...her son (my nephew) killed himself at 55 same year...he loved motorcycles all his life & had a bunch of them...vintage dirt bikes...he raced in vintage motocross.. He had 2 sons..teenagers...they gave me one of his bikes, a Rupp 125mx and ive been working on it lately & maybe it will run again this summer. Speakin of old stuff..remember "Harold & Maude" with the Cat Stevens music....always liked his songs.. I actually went to a Ted Nugent concert at the Fox theatre..must have been '75 or 6...was deaf for 2 days after On the way down...already stoned...I ran into the back of a Porsche 914...and I SWEAR THIS IS TRUE!! THE ENGINE FELL OUT ONTO THE PAVEMENT!!!
never heard of a rupp.love to see a pic of that.i had a vw that used A 914 lump.solid lump, believe you though...them chassis rails just weren't built to handle it.must be our age love a bit of cat Stevens.time f nuver joint
My nephew liked rare bikes much as I do...the Rupp is quite rare, its a '73-4 model with a 6 spd Sachs motor....just a pure race bike. Rupp made lots of minibikes and even 3 wheelers..they are a company that makes pipe fittings...you almost never see the 125mx even on ebay. It was state of the art for its time...has conical hubs with grease fittings for the wheel bearings...never seen this on another machine. Will try to post pics when I figure it out...jim
I was gonna say I wish I was 52 again BUT then realized I would still be workin' After I retired I had dreams that I was still working...bizarre...at least I woke up & dreams did not come true..
Preach on brother Merlin! Age be damned. You've got to fight with your body and bend it to your will. I saw this woman on Horizon - she looked about 50 - and good looking 50 if you know what I mean. She was a dance choreographer. She had the face of a 50 year old, the body of a well fit 30 year old. She was in fact about 69. She said, stretching out on the warm up bar, 'this is the secret.Pain. If you want to retain mobility and muscle, you have to work at it' - or something like that. So get on a bike, a skateboard or go chop some wood or whatever, and never bloody give up. Fight!
Did you hear about the French woman who lived to be 122 years old??? sounds like a joke is coming?? But NO! Read about her on Wikipedia....oldest authenticated age that a human has ever lived! Outlived her children, husband..etc etc Smoked for 100 years...she actually met Van Gogh I think it was...
