Scoot working exactly the same. Insane at full bore, spluttery at slow roll on. Will try the needle and if that doesn't help, I'm going to see Yoda.

    Hi turbo,
Had a similar problem with a scoot, crap getting into the carb for no apparent reason. Eventually found that the air box breather pipe that was attached to a hole in the frame was sucking rust up from inside the frame itself. Had no choice but to fit an after market cone type filter. Cured the problem.
Probably wont apply to yours, reading what you do to bikes, but just a thought.

Alas- it's nothing that simple! But thanks for the thought. I think the carb (an Oko 21 mm which I have had for years), may just be worn out. Slider tolerances, funny gaskets when you competely strip it, worn needle etc etc). It's all clean and set up correctly - nothing left to chance. Perhaps the needle will resolve it as I think the jets are about perfect. How else do you explain the fact that it works so well, so fast, day in- day out? I'm trying the needle tomorrow. If that brings no joy, we take it to the carb Jedi. If Yoda can't tune it so it pootles- fuck it. I'll just use the 28- or the VHST, or get another 21. The thing is, if you mash it, it just goes ballistic. I like that!

By the way - nice find (re. the crash Zip!)

Went to see Yoda today. he suggested working the needle or the cut of the throttle slider based on my description of the symptoms. So we're talking about a rich middle carb. Dropped the needle by a click and guess what. It works better. Not totally clean on the slow roll on, but better. And more horses too. The rollers suddenly felt heavier (sure sign of more power). So we know where we are going. Works beautifully though.

finally found the problem with my scoot, feel like an idiot... Every time i've looked for the problem it's been on the vario side, havent looked at the exhaust side atall, until today, because i moved it yesterday. Anyway, there was a puddle of 2 stroke under it so i tried to have a look where it was coming from at the exhaust side. Upon looking, i spot a split along the side and bottom on the inlet manifold *facepalm*, time to order a new one.

I removed the oil filter, dropped the oil out of the engine - dumped a 1/2 liter of oil into it with the sump plug removed (to rinse out the sump) - put the plug & new filter on, put new synthetic oil in - checked level, topped up the coolant. Oh - wait a minute, that's my car, not my scoot ! (slaps forehead)

forgot to say- I was working in the garage with the door open, and a wee old lady walks by with her bicycle. Stops, and starts.... I say 'how may I be of assistancé
Her chain keeps coming off. So I fix that - and pump her tyres up (compressor). She thanks me and we're done. I go inside.
10 minutes later, doorbell rings, little lady comes back with a bag. Pink Chapagne! I thank her and tell her the next service is on the house.
I am drinking Roy Raulin Brut! Cheers!
