as a lot of you will know i got the 21mm carb for my aerox. today i took it to a local 2 stroke mechanic to fit it. it was going ok apart frm the idle which i sorted. but i went for a ride and all of a suddne then thrttle stuck open. luckily i was going up hill and turned off the ignition. i whipped off the battery compartment and noticed the throttle was stuck open (culd see from the elbow on top on the carb) i noticed the elbow on top of the carb was loose as fuck and i could rotate it easily. i tried pushing the caqble back in and rotated the elbow round slightly. it seemed to run fine but i left it at a mates house. is it because the elbow has came loose that the throttle cable has not retracted? so therefore is it just a case of rotating the elbow clock wis untill its tight? the cable isnt snapped  and it wont help saying take it back to the bloke that fitted it as how could i ride it there? thanks for any contributions
take it back to him in a van/he is legally obliged to come get it if his work left you stranded befor you made it home. why pay somone to do somthing for it to be wrong, then ask for free advice? you want my help theres only one way your getting it... bring the bike to me an pay me, otherwise go back to whoever you last paid to sort your bike out. somthing has NOT been put in correcty or the carb has worn parts.
ok minor where aboutsyou live and how much you charge. running a 70 main jet now and running lean full throttle. was running a 78 and slightly rich i have a 74 main jet also. i managed to fix the throttle and havent had any problems since. atm its running very rich untill i ful throttle till it leans out. i have taken the pipe out of airbox and still way too rich. pulled my airbox off the bike and went for a spin and it flew. soo much better acceleration. sometimes it starts when its cold without using the manual choke so i know its way to rich. i can even see a black spot on my chrome exhaust where theres so much oil in the mix. also noticed when i try to wheelie as i lift the bike up as soon as it goes up say 30 degrees it splutters for some reason. rollers are brand spanking new 3.5g malossi.
Take it back to the "mechanic" Tell him to cut away the stop in the throttle twist grip, remove the splitter box, make a one piece cable to eliminate the splitter box and allow the carb to open fully and do the bloody job properly!!
he probably wouldn't even know how to do that. he just doesnt have no passion at all. and i dont think he really gives a fuck about other kids bikes tbh. does my nut in cos i take my time on everything i do on my bike if minor doesnt live too far then hopefully he can have a look at it
I think the point is though, you've paid the mechanic to do a job which he hasn't fulfilled properly. Whether he has passion or not is irrelevant. Everyone complains about how bad their local mechanic is but never have the balls to go back and complain. You've paid a professional to do a job relating to their profession. They should be taking it very seriously. For example, if a mechanic tells you a specific part of your bike is the problem, and it turns out its not and your bike messes up, you can actually sue the mechanic under the tort of Negligent Mis-statements. So go back, and tell him straight that the job hasn't been done properly.
he used to have a bike shop in frome but it got shut down by the council. when i first picked it up after having the carb done it ran like shit spluttered like fuck and i knew it was running too rich, he works from home and i dont think he has a proper licence or whatever they have to have, he said to me it was going really well earlier on in the day though. so we took the pipe out of the airbox and it ran better.then he just told me to fck off basically. so paid up and left. id just rather pay someone whoi actually properly knows how to setup a carb.
sounds like hes just a mechanic and doesnt know how to setup a carb read the carb guide and get some jets and go play with it it shouldnt take you long at all to make it run good
he is located in gloucestershire mate. on a side note : is it my imagination or does almost every one recently have the same roller/carb related problems usually caused from an attempt to fit a sports exhaust, and they all go to a garage, dad, mate that is meant to know what they are doing only to prove that that person is clueless and couldn't build lego let alone a bike? cratch:
That's kind of my point, Fire. Lately there's been alot of so called professional mechanics getting things wrong. If they don't really know what they're doing they shouldn't take up the job. Problem is, most 16 year olds dont seem willing to argue the point with mechanics. Like the above, just happy to accept that you've paid money for work to be done which hasn't been fulfilled. Admitedly im only 18, but if i felt something wasn't done right to my bike, i'd either take it back and make them sort the problem for free, or put the bike in the condition it was when i brought it to them and request a refund. If you all keep letting mechanics getting away with not doing their job properly, they'll just continue to do it, and they'll continue to take on work on scoots that they don't actually know what to do.
now now now... your trying to pay mechanics to do a tunners job... a mechanic does NOT need to know how to set a carb up, they have to know the book to look in to give them the correct jetting/sizing and setting of all the carb parts on an engine (Stock one) a mechanic does NOT need to be licenced (only to produce vehicles from scratch or mot vehicles... nothing else) so your paying a mechanic to do there job, fit a carb, wich he done.... as best as a mechanic will ever do.. you cant nock them as you asked them to do somthing and they did it... fact is you should be paying a tunner not a mechanic..... theres a BIG difference between a tunner and a piaggio dealer (i often phone cheeky thomas for help as does he as we both know what were doing and that job is entirely different) as for this, your not gonna get it on the net tbh... ether set your bike back to stock and read up ALOT befor you mod it... atleast you will have some idea... OR find a TUNNER and pay them to set your bike up.... then if you have this problem you have some comeback as they havent done the job you payd them for... as for the council closing him down and you still givimg him money to work on a bike..... more fool you for trying to get somthing on the cheap you get what you pay for in this world. or what you put into whatever your doing. nothing more.... all the info you need is in guides/posts right here... you just need to sit down and read untill it makes sence as nobody is gonna go over this again wiht you, its an old conversation everyones sick of having... sorry
well i wouldnt say hes a full on tuner as such. hes nicknamed aerox andy as he seems to work on aerox's 90 percent of the time. ive known him to buidl evo 2 aerox's from bare cases and them to be pretty dam quick. he likes to fit pm tuning parts though hock: and minor, ive read over and over the carb guide and roller guide by yourself. rollers i dont have problems with anymore. and carbs im ok on. dont have a clue about float heights or needle in the carb, however main jet and idle screw is easy enough. im beggining to get the knack of the pilot screw too. and also i noticed today that the airbox is a bitch to put on to the carb. it slotted on the standard carb nicely but the mouth of the new carb is slightly wider. i unscrewed the mouth on the new carb and it only just goes into the airbox. is there anyway i can get a small mouth for the new carb. its a 21mm dell black edtion.
no, you replace the hose that joins the carb and the airbox wiht a suitable diametrer (use a peice of the old pipe to "stuff" the exit of the box as a bigger pipe for the carb will be loose on the box, hence you put the new pipe over a peice of old pipe on the airbox... ) if he is so good, he will do the job he's paid for.. if he told you to fuck off take some heavys round there and get your dogh back... or take a bike, you DO have legal recorce to recover your property (the threft of a vehicle is illegal even if money ois owed, yet if you HAVE his vehicle and he reports it to the police, you can tell them he owes you money and it becomes a matter for county court) small loophole... id give him a slap, take my money back and generally spread the word about his work practicces.... not that it wil hurt, the council shut him down (probably for shit like this) and people like you pay him to this day.... you pay a tunner to do a job, its not done, you get your dogh back.... next time dont pay till your happy wiht the work... from what youve told us all he's done a piss poor job of doing it, probably used the stock cable and ditched the ajuster instead of fitting a longer cable/modding the original..wich is why its loose and jamming open, its dangeros as fuck... do what you can, report back wiht some more info/pics if possible and a GOOD explination of your problem and i/others will get back as soon as we read it...
tbh minor i did say to him that if he cant set it up then id have a go at playing around with the jets. hes fully booked until march and he just spent a few hours doing it on sunday. when i first rode it after it was very spluttewry and i knew it was rich. he said he couldnt see why it wnet like that as he said it was going well. he said to drop the main jet down to a 74 whihc i have done, i paid him 60 quid to fit the carb which i supplied. but he supplied the elbow and a polini manual choke. i also bought a set of malossi rollers. tomo im gonna try and get the airbox to actually fit onto the fcking carb. atm its loud as too much air is getting into the carb. and then i need to play around with the pilot screw and tickover. what i cant get is that i did a plug check and it seems to be running spot on. but i know it isnt. top speed is good though managingto hit the T on the clock. if i cant sort it ill bring it to you minor and pay you to do it. i live in wiltshire so it shouldnt be too much of a hassle getting to you.
ahh your only local then..... tbh i dont usually touch mina's... but if everythings as it should be (i dont know the order of the parts on the variator shaft or anything) then its not a prob (i dont want to be fucking wiht rollers only to find the front pulleys not in the right place because a spacer/washer/part i know nothing of is missing) i can give it a quick going over, atleast tell you whats up wiht it if i dont have the rollers/jets to hand to sort the problem.... where abouts in wiltshire are you?
tell you what, fuck it.. ive pm'd you my number... gimmi a ding tomorrow after 10am (Any time past that even if its late evening) and we can sort sommin out... be it a quick explination of whats going on or you having to bring it down... i dont want you to think im making work for myself obviously... could be somthing simple... tbh it sounds asif somones done a halfg assed job of alot of things tho so its not gonna be as easy to diagnose over the phone..... gimmi a ding, atleast you will have a better idea/a decent option if you cant sort it..... as for 60 to fit a carb....
