Trumpalot now works at home so she can look after little un so I can go out and work too. But she relies on my desktop computer to actually work, Usually its just left on all the time but is set so it goes into standby after 15 minutes of being left alone (brother set it up to do that). The past few weeks it has been extremely slow and occasionally switching itself off (usually when shes in the middle of writing up a contract or document etc) which of course is not good. It has no viruses, no Trojans and apart from her going onto facebook, youtube, email and Skype it doesn't go on the internet much, its usually just used purely for typing documents etc up for her dads company.
somebody suggested opening the tower up and cleaning it out, this hasn't been done since ive had it so thought it would be best to do it anyway, ive cleaned it out and no improvement whatsoever.
ive not got a clue about hard drive size or ram or whatever, all I know is that its a desktop hp pavilion running windows 7.
    any help? please?

sounds like its overheating..... did you blow all the dust out the back of the powerpack? also if you want to buy some ram or whatever, get it from novatech, best company to use i think. its pretty simple to add ram or an extra harddrive when you look at it, its been years since i did a computer build so maybe things have changed, but it tends to be there is room for extra RAM and an extra hard drive, if you buy an extra drive you must remember to set the little jumper pins so its a slave and not a main drive, or your gonna have problems!

Yup, got it all out. I literally know nothing about computers all I know is how to turn them on and use them so talk of adding ram etc just goes over my head lol. For what it is its always done the job fine, just recently we've had issues. Brother thinks changing the fan may help?
