    Ok, so it's a C100 (1963 Cub)

Bought but the owner lost the logbook when moving house.
I have previous MOT's, so can use that to get a fresh MOT, right? (Correct me if I'm wrong)!

The DVLA waffled something about contacting the previous address before being able to send the logbook.

My question - Even though she is tax exempt, am I correct in saying that you still need to 'tax' it, even though there's nothing to pay? And is there a way of doing it with no paperwork?
You know what the DVLA are like, could be waiting months for the sake of taxing a tax free bike!?

So the second part of the question, what's the chances of getting bollucked for no tax if I get insured and ride with just an MOT?
I mean, even though tax doesn't need paying, it still needs declaring to be the right side of the law?

    Advice please!

    Right.
Having recently gone through all the BS I can tell you how to do it.

Insure it. Pre Book MOT - MOT it. You can legally ride to and from a MOT without tax aslong as you have insurance in place.

Once you are MOTd head straight to the nearest post office and fill out a V62 form. Take it to the counter, dont just post it off, Ask to pay the £25 fee for the V5 and ask them to tax it there and then. You can tax it off a V62 form now. (done it multiple times myself)
You will need to take your photocard licence + MOT certificate + insurance certificate with you to the post office.

Yes you do need to "tax" it even though it is exempt, Just for the sake of the computers in the shiny police cars knowing that you are legal and have declared the vehicle as on the road.

With regards to recieving a V5, A V62 Almost guarantees you a V5 and will usually arrive within 4-6 weeks after applying for one. Ive never had any issues getting a V5 off a V62. The DVLA will complicate it because all they care about is generating revenue from you.

Ok, as it hasn't been on the road in so long, I had to re-apply!
Sent off pictures and numbers to a Honda guy (cost £5) for him to re-register it to the road I suppose?
Hopefully she doesn't come back Q plated?

And will get some pictures for you, and check out the link above!

you dont get Q plates these days, just new style plates, but as you have spoken to someone who can confirm the age (thats what the £5 is for) you will get a new age related plate, i wonder if they still make front plates? hmm a plastic front plate would be cool. have you seen my little project? i just put a 140cc motor in one of my cubs

Aw ok, that's good news then!
I hope they do do the front plates, as I think it looks so nice!
Will it be in the chalkboard colour or will it have to be yellow? Yellow will also be a shame..

And no I haven't, do you have a link?

i think they come on the old colour as that was what was legal at the time? but the probably advise to use new reflective type plates.
not sure i did a build thread on it, but heres a pic of it.

If they give you an age related plate, plus if the vehicle was made with a front number plate, then you are entitled to have the plate in the original configuration, i.e chalk board curved on the front mudguard.
But you can't just add one because it looks cool and suits the bike.
Don't forget that those old plates were made of steel in the day, any front pedestrian collision...............

    Lovely picture!
Bike looks good, and loving the scenery too. Is that a fire extinguisher? Haha.
Will have a flick through projects to try and find the build.

And thanks for the reply Steve. It was made with one yes, so will be nice to keep it as want it to look as original as possible!
