petrol has been left in the tank open to the rain, leaves from the garden and air obviously for some time as been sat in the garden. about 6 months anyways.

i want to clean the tank out as i have discovered this gooey sticky substance and i read i had to clean it and use fresh petrol for it to start.

what is the best 'unprofessional' method to cleaning it, something i can use household items or will just boiling water and a swill few times do?

    any help appreciated, thanks.

    ok what i do is
    take tank off bike
take off bottom tap valve (to check filter is not blocked up
    then
    take it to the bath
get warm to hot water (not really hot cause it expands the plastic tank)
    add some fairy or whatever
shake about and repeat a few times
then add salt and warm water (salt will help scratch off crap)
    then shake about
then after rinse out a few times with cold water (tp get out all salt and bubbles)
    then refit
    job done
ps also check your jets are ok and not blocked up as bikes been sitting a while

    yes this works too
but my idea of salt is very good
as salt is abrasive so will scratch of the crap on the inside of the tanks walls

    th
    thanks
ps after you have done it
take out the petrol level sender unit
to make sure no salt or anything is inside etc
i only do salt if its very very bad inside
usually fairy and warm water does the trick
but if it very very bad inside put in a small cup of salt and some water (just a lil bit of water)
that way it stays abrasive and does the trick

ps can someone change my screenname
otherwise im going to have to delete account and remake
    cheers

ps if you got sharp sand use instead of salt (even better guys ) )
