so i wanted to mount my new phva 17.5mm carb onto my sym and decided i would make my own short intake manifold and get the carb in the position i wanted it instead of just hacking the old manifold up and not being anything near how i wanted it.
so far i have made the base plate out of 10mm aluminium il let the pics do the talking :p
havent figured out exactly how i am gong to do the actual intake tube yet any (suggestions welcome!!) was thinking either 24mm id rubber hose or aluminium tube
so wanted the carb rear facing but found out there is no room at all was hoping to fit a big oval filter :( anyway the last pic shows how the carb will be mounted instead (Edit sorry the pics are rotated computer wont let me change them for some reason IMG_4244.jpg IMG_4243.jpg IMG_4230.jpg IMG_4229.jpg IMG_4234.jpg IMG_4246.jpg IMG_4280.jpg IMG_4252.jpg IMG_4259.jpg IMG_4276.jpg

Looking good so far, you can get ally tube from someone local to you, it won't be a lot to have it welded up.

not sure if it would be fuel resistant enough but i have a small 90bend piece of radiator hose that is just the right size i would struggle to get any tube bent and welded :( will post some more pics soon

right sorry there has been no updates been really busy with end of college and other stuff but been working on this again all day today and have taken more pics (fitted it and it has given me slightly better throttle response :) but mainly the carb sits in a better position... will get some pics up off my phone either later today or tomorow

heres the pics unfortunately the epoxy didn't do a very good job of holding the rubber in place :( any suggestions on a specialist glue ?

a good bit of rubber cement from a puncture repair kit should be good at holding the pipe but not sure if it'l grab the ally, ide bodge it with super glue or a mixture of the two!

okay i will give that a try i googled it and there are some specialist rubber to metal glues so might have to try one of those however after taking a proper look at the manifold i think the araldite may of been okay for alot longer than it was if i had made a support bracket to the end of the manifold where the carb goes in as the carb and filter seem to be putting a lot of stress on the rubber so i will post a couple pics of that when its done btw the rubber to metal is as tight as it can be without it kinking inside the hole and the bike runs ok without it being glued :) so just need to keep it there cos dont think it would withstand a bump :O

this has cost 3 quid so far for the piece of ally i bought which was twice the size of what im using here and think the epoxy was about 4 quid but i already had that lying around :p if you can find me a intake manifold for a sym that is similar to this i will happily buy it ! but like to make my own things or atleast have a go when i cant find the part to buy
