I think you would be completely insane to swap your typhoon for one.

any reasons?? i like the phoon but bored of it now and i like the practical side of it having the underseat storage but the performance, top end is poor and at full chat it guzzles fuel. im thinking the 4-t is gonna be better for an old fart like myself

The Typhoons performance will be much better than any 125 4 stroke that's for sure. Fuel consumption shouldn't be hugely different but then you have to factor in the price of 2 stroke oil.

If I could park a stock typhoon without it being stolen i'd ride one every day. Much more intresting then a boring 4 stroke 125. If it's a commuter then the best thing is just to go for a common brand with lots of dealer backup and nice cheap parts. Vespa's, Piaggios, honda, etc.

hmm, im sure the sym will be at least 30mpg more?? dealer backup, spares, etc, not a problem as im in the bike trade. i know there is a following with the phoons and they are well put together but the taiwanese build quality and following doesnt put me off.
i just thought for a newer, more economical scoot i was quids in?? the phoon isnt what i was told it was worth when i got it and round here has been a hard scoot to try and sell.

Still sure it would be easier to sell the Typhoon than the SYM at one point... You would get a few hundred more for your typhoon and sell it easily if it was in London. Stock clean bikes are very rare.

As long as you understand the SYM will be slower, slightly better on fuel economy, quieter and more reliable then that's fine. Just don't think it will be quicker or that you are swapping it for a more valuable bike!

This isn't really relevant as i'm guessing you are old enough that it doesn't matter but for younger members who may be reading it would probably end up costing quite a bit more to insure the SYM too. Sounds strange but insurance companies only really care about the age of a bike and not how often they get stolen.

you sure a phoon is quicker??.....i know mines 16000 miles tired, but only pulls 72 on the clock, 65 genuine. i thought tthe sym would pull 70?? my old roofed, heavy C1 would pull a genuine 70!!

Easily. A typhoon is quicker than any 4 stroke 125. Top end will be similar but that's the same with all scooters. They are so crap at going through the air that it takes a lot more power to add top speed. The typhoon is about 20kg lighter too.

This is coming from owning Typhoons and other 125 air cooled 2 stroke engined bikes and 4 stroke 125's! There is just no competition when it comes to speed.

Like i said if the only reason is the piratical side then by all means go for the swap. :) I've ridden 4 stroke commuters and they do the job but you don't get a smile on your face like a 2 stroke.

okies dude, i think you might have twisted my arm now, tbh, i have talked to a few peeps on this subject now and the phoon is a practical classic thats a better keep.
and somewhere in me is still a youthfull 2-stroke junkie :)
