Hi all  , Just bought my daughter a scoot as she is 16 in a couple months time. I have a full licence and been riding bikes for over 20 yrs but these little bikes are new to me. I took the bike up the road yesterday and was not impressed with the 35 mph top speed, I would feel much better if this scoot could keep with the flow of traffic on our country A roads, as at the moment i feel it dangerous with 40 ton lorries passing you trying to suck you underneath. Can anyone suggest simple tuning (ie) exhaust type, roller size, weight etc. All i want from this bike is 45 ish mph as i dont want to make it unreliable and keep getting calls to go pick her up as the bike has broken down. Treat me like a dumb-ass when you respond as im not at all use to autos, in my day we had 50s that did 50mph from standard. :yahoo: Many thanks in advance Andy
Well as standard it should do 30mph restricted for a 16 year old. More than that and it would be illegal bla bla bla etc bollox. 35mph on the flat could either mean the speedo is over reading or it's been partly de-restricted. These bikes are a pain in the arse to de-restrict compared to other bikes and are pretty poor engine wise generally. The restrictions are in the exhaust, CDI, a washer behind the variator and in the gears. Most other scoots are just the exhaust and the washer. It may also need a re-jet and a slight tweak of the rollers but that's not always needed if you keep the standard exhaust. You should then see about 45mph out of it and it will be as reliable as standard if not more so!
Cheers for your response tErr0, Where will i find the variator and what do you mean by "and in the gears". Can you not just change the rollers to gear it up and if so what would i go for. I would assume changing the rollers would have the same effect as changing sprockets on a geared bike ?
http://www.scootershack.co.uk/rollerguide.html Read that! All scooters have a gearbox from the rear pully to the rear wheel. You have to remove and replace some of the gears to add more top speed to that bike as it is very low geared as standard. Normally scooter gear box's allow a top speed of about 65mph as standard (but when the engine is tuned) but not that bike! Best idea would be to get a haynes manual for the bike. If they don't do one then a general scooter one should do to give you an idea of what's what.
