hi ive found 4 small areas of damage on my seat, generally about 5mm by 6mm or thereabouts. I dont want them to grow and i dont want water getting into the foam. Any suggestions for a good strong repair? Im thinking melted rubber or plastic like a small welding job.

repair is all good but over time that repair will fail again if not close by then your back to square one.

hiding it : seat covers are cheap these days so a aftermarket waterproof seat cover slipped over would keep water away somewhat.

re- upholster , most seats are made from fake leather, cheap as chips if you go to your local haberdashery.
remove old seat cover by pulling out the staples.
unpick the stitching in the old cover and lay it down onto your new coverings backside, draw around the old covering shapes and number /mark them where they fit together.
Needle and industrial thread , sew panels together, if family/relative has a sewing machine its about 90% faster than by hand.
Once sewn up its a case off sliding the new seat cover into place and restapling it to the plastic seat base ( DO NOT use the same staple holes )
you will need a good very strong staple gun to get a good finish. as you start to lay the cover stretch the sides and tack them with a staple till you have a nice uniform cover, then just go round the flap and staple it down, trim any excess and bobs your uncle you just re-upholstered a seat yourself. throw a seat cover over and its all good and done.

Seat cover off fleabay and a heavy duty staple gun and glue.
Cut the material sides off around the old seat, place new one into position so you get it in the right place with the seams if it has any, spray glue all the inside of the new one, wait for it to go tacky, put it in position, pull the sides round and staple the nuts off it.
DON'T try and pull the old material off, it is probably glued to the foam already, good sharp stanley knife.
Makes a right dogs dinner of the foam doing that.

nice thing is you can upholster the seat to what colour you like your not stuck to that shine black, you can chose a colour to compliment the scoot :)
