http://www.pedparts.co.uk/product/1134/stage6-cnc-drive-face--peugeot Hello i wanted to ask if any one has one? and how would you tighten the nut up? Cheers
Usually a buzz gun (impact wrench) If its for piggy or aerox engines then they sell a tightening tool that goes on the kickstart bit
Never but never use a "buzz gun" to tighten the variator nut up, do it properly with a torque wrench. Only un-do with the rattle gun.
In that case you make a locking tool or find a way to lock it or lock the variator, using a rattle gun to tighten it will overtighten and stretch the thread or shear it off. The nut only need's around 45Nm torque, a rattle gun will go over 100Nm so you'd be only guessing how tight it is.
i use a electric rattle gun, i cant remember the proper name, works fine tightening and talking it off, no problems at all
never tried it myself but ive heard of peaple putting a spanner on the other side of the crank and getting someone to hold it to tighten or lossen the variator side you can also get a tool you screw into the spark plug hole you turn the variator till the piston is at the top and locks against it
also if your gonna get a a lighter drive face you might aswell do it propper and get a decent crank that can take the faster higher revs and get onto SRT for a lighter flywheel for the other side of the crank. or your just gonna trash the crank you have fitted now
I think you need to invest in a torque wrench, every time you tighten it, it stretches the thread slightly. Torquing it up each time means it's the same every time!
I own a torque wrench, but when I tighten'd it up too the correct Nm the nut come off when I road the bike, My impact gun is 240v, however a one second click is 54nm which is perfect.
loctite!!! vital on crank threads- a while back Piaggio put in a dealer bulletin something to the effect that they would decline any warranty claims relating to front pulleys if it was found that loctite had not been used. the 2-stroke mopeds are fine to use a piston stopper for crank nut tightening where the front pulley can't be locked- 4-strokes are iffy because the stopper goes in at an angle (maybe 45 deg) to the piston and can potentially cause damage but 2-stroke stoppers are directly perpendicular to the piston so should be fine- an impact driver is very high risk for tightening crank nuts unless you have a really expensive one where you can accurately set the torque, you can easily strip a crank nut otherwise by overtightening it- usually the nut thread will strip before the crank is damaged *if you are lucky* but don't count on it!!
Andy, rememeber my zip when it came in and you couldn't get the crank nut off cause it was done up so tight, that was a windy gun.
i think from memory someone had done it up with impact drive and damaged the thread - so when you went to undo it, it just span and had to be cut off? can't remember- doing them up with an impact driver doesn't normally end well!
we always use the piston stopper tool at work, we have an expensive rattle gun but never use it to tighten up crank bolts or the sort.
