    Hi guys,
i recently had a problem with power and going uphills. Which turned out to be the rollers. I replaced them then it was happy days for afew weeks until the vacuum tap on the tank died which lead to it not running. An acquaintance said he had one that had barely been used and could have it for free, once fitted it was fine again apart from it had no "go" when setting off or at jogging pace. But was fine once it was going, i dropped a clip on the needle lifting the needle up and seemed loads better. Today on whilst on my way to get it mot'd it had nothing, would barely pull downhill. I think the vacuum fuel tap has gone again. Could it be anything else? If its the tap, i've heard you can drill down the feed part of valve and it'll supply fuel. But what are the effects of doing this? Will it not fill the carb then just pour out the overflow?

    cheers

Yes it will just fill up the carb. Buy a new one? Should always buy parts like that new anyway as they are very cheap and commonly go wrong.

Is that most likely to be my problem? If so i'll buy one at the weekend and get it fitted.

    cheers

I'm not actually sure. The only time i've had fuel taps fail they always end up just pouring fuel out. I'm going with the logic that it's the only part that was changed and it was with a second hand bit. Change it and see what happens?

Update, Fitted a new vacuum tap friday night and went for a test ride afterwards and it seemed fine but still not "right". Not as nippy/powerful. Went to work on it saturday morning and it felt back to its original self and could nearly pick the front wheel up under normal acceleration. Then soon as it got upto optimum operating temp it had no power at all, wouldnt even pull down hill. if i stopped at a set of lights it wouldnt pull away, it'd stutter for about 7/8seconds crawling forward then pull away. It'd go uphill for a short time then crawl at 5/10mph, then if i pulled over for a couple of minutes with it ticking over then it would pull away fine then do the same again about 20 metres up the road. I dont think there's been a problem with the tap from the start now. i did a comp test at work and its putting out 140psi, put a new plug in when i did the test but had no effect. Could it be the coil pack/lead dying? but that doesnt explain it only happening when its warm?

    cheers

Is the bike louder? Check and make sure your exhaust isn't blowing.
