My brothers SR125 was running fine up until the other day. He said that it just cut out and wouldn't start again. Its been parked at mine for the past 3 days and said I would have a look at it for him. So I took the plug out, cleaned it up with a wire brush and a bit of petrol, blew the fuel line through and blew the jet through and after that it still wouldn't start and there wasn't much compression on the kick start but could feel it in the end of the exhaust. So I popped down the road, got a new BR8ES plug and a can of easy start. Whipped the plugs over and sprayed some easy start as directed as it hss no airbox and it fired up for about 2 seconds and sounds like it was about to bog out so I gave it a bit of throttle and it just dies :msn1: So I sprayed a bit more into the carb and it fired up again then it dies after about 2 seconds. I have read through the workshop as it was Capri Dave who said he always carries easy start with him and that is where I got the idea from (Cheers dave  ) If any body could possibly help me out it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I bought a brand new one and put it in. Could it be that the reeds are not snapping flat on the block? Because some one said that if they do not sit on there perfectly flat it can affect the way the bike runs completly?
yeh they need to sit flat and create a seal. whip the reedblock out see if their still all in one peice and check to see if they are sealing. if they aint could cause loss of compression. if they aint sealing turn them over
if the reeds check out ok, look into whether the carb is getting fuel... the fact it fires on easy start for a few seconds suggests to me the sparks ok and its a fuelling problem
you bought the wrong plug in the first place mate BR9ES and buy a compression tester!!! everyone should buy one would save ALOT of post like these a bike can start even with shite compression, and something needs adjusting if it died in the first place then it definately wasnt right from the start oh and please tell me youve cleaned the air filter??? this rain has fucked with so many open filters lately
Its not the wrong plug... All my bikes have run either on BR8ES or BR8EIX and some times a BR9ES. can't see it making any differance tbh. There is compression, you can feel it in the kick start and at the end of the exhaust. There wasn't a air filter on there but the bike was under cover whilst it was raining. Checked the reeds and they where fine. Looks like Capri Dave was correct Took the panels off. was checking all of the hoses to check for blockages and there must of been air trapped along one of the fuel lines and I found that the overflow pipe wasn't on so air might of got in that way some how? But after we had drained the petrol and giving all the pipes a good blowing through and put it together it started 1st time. Cheers for the help guys.
Glad its sorted, and yes SR125s DO run BR8ES not BR9ES for some random reason, and No, i've never had a problem running 8s, its what the service book reccomends.
