when i woked at a shop we put them on the stand/lifted them up and kicked the wheel round... can read 10mph this way... alot dont check but it IS a requirement. without the speedo the odomoater doesent work

the reason for an od is so people know the mialage of a vehicle for obv reasons....

I'm quite shocked by all this "well i think" "mine was ok?" Sort of answers. If you give bad advice the guy could either lose £30 or so or have his bike ordered off the road.

In the past month there have been a whole lot of police vehicle checks and all it takes is something like a faulty speedo cable to have your bike ordered off the road.

So like Minor said it is a legal requirement.

Every M.O.T place is different, you might get away with it and you might not... But is it really worth like 10quid to losse 30quid and fail an mot?

Took my FXR in for its MOT today and it passed with a non-functioning speedo / odometer.

I suppose it depends on the MOT Tester and how you get on with him and the general overall condition of the bike.......
