    Hi all,

I'm a total novice at scooter mechanics so not sure what to do.

I bought a cheap Chinese Lintex Ariic 125 scooter in October. I had a suspcion that the speedometer was wrong and after six months of running I'm 100% certain that it is.

The other day I was crusing down an A road full throttle for about 10 miles knowing that my top speed couldn't match any other vehicle and it wasn't until I got way down the road I realised my speedometer needle had gone all the way past the numbers.

So if I thought my speed wasn't reading correctly before then I can almost certainly say there is a n issue with it now. By my estimate I'm at least 10 mph out but could be more when at higher speed.

It's still under warranty but is this something that can be fixed myself?

You should be able to easily do 60 mph on that bike as standard, with any restrictions still in place.
Looking at photos of the speedo, I can see that the outside of the dial reads in KMPH, with 80 being the top mark; that equates to only 50mph.
The inside of the speedo dial is MPH, but to check the accuracy, fix a GPS somewhere and check your speed that way, I've found that most satnav's are pretty good to within 2 mph these days.

    Thanks Stevep.

Well, I've had it up at 70-80mph before but I know that isn't correct because cars are still going past me with relative ease.

I contacted the place I bought the scooter from and they've order a new speedometer for me.

If I keep on scooting in the years ahead, I think I'll plunge for a better make.
