last night just after filling up, one of my m8s 4 month old speedfights cut owt and would not restart. we spent a gd hour looking at it but cud not find a problem, when we did get it to start it wud blow owt tons of grey smoke and sound terrible, it wud then cut owt after 5 seconds or if we tried to rev it. the only thing we cud think that was wrong was that the fuel he put in only had a weak smell of petrol where as petrol ususaly stinks. Any Ideas?
did he put diesel in it by any chance? i know it sounds stupid, but can happen and by your description thats what it sounds like.
i know and we were asking im that but he asures us it was petrol that went in and i can remeber him having the green pump in his hand so i dont think so but yeh thats wat we was thinking
try draining the petrol and re filling at a decent station like bp or something, it could even be something like a weak spark so take the spark plug out and give it a clean , see what that brings up, if u se that it runs a little better but not great then buy a new spark plug alltogether. EDIT: just readover your post again, it could actually be seized, when you first tryed starting it after it had cut out, did u use the kick start, if so was it really stif when you first started kicking
i think it could be a seize too. the symptoms suggest a lack of compression. it could also be a crank seal let go if the bike was stood in a dealers for a long time before being used. being 4 months old, take it back to the dealers as it will still be in warrenty. chances are hey havent got a clue though.
know it wasnt stiff when we tried it but we were using electric start because we can leave it on till engine starts ticking, know we shudnt do that but it was starting
sounds like a compression issue, seizes don't always make the engine go tight. take the plug out and put your thumb over the hole and turn the engine over, should blow your thumb off the hole. if not then you've got a top-end compression problem.
think one of the others tried that we also tokk the air box of and the pipe to the carb was covered in oil, 2 of them thought there was no compression
could be oil in the cylinder, because of all the black smoke once it got started, black smoke = oil burning
it was grey smoke, usually water. hence low compression, = headgasket. assuming of couse its LC (cant remember now i've written it)
