Hi guys, From doing a bit of research i've worked out there were two carbs on the speedfight 50, one with a 54 main jet and one with a 72 main jet. From what i can understand the one with the 72 main jet is from the newer models which has an electric oil pump and an air pump. My bike had a carb with a 54 main jet in it. I ended up buying a new carb with a 72 main jet and putting it on. I upjetted to a 76 for my exhaust and never checked the plug... (amateur)... because the bike was running well. Since then it's put a hole in the top of piston so i'm having to buy a new bloody barrel! but i want a new carb as well, i'm curious as to which carbs are the best to buy as im on a tight budget. I'm looking to get it the cheapest possible as im hoping not to keep the bike for much longer... (Bike test + Gilly Runner 200 VXR ) Was going to buy these parts: http://www.pedparts.co.uk/product/638/motoforce-standard-50cc-cylinder--peugeot-ac http://www.pedparts.co.uk/product/403/tnt-tuning-race-carb-19mm-21mm Thanks for the help guys Dan
Mate, i've got one of those carbs and they're utter shit, they just fall apart, i guess once you have it setup it's actually fine, but if you're planning on changing the jets often and taking off the hoses regularly; don't say i didn't warn you! For a 50cc i think anything bigger than a 17.5 is a bit overkill anyway! Also, buy this amazing bit of kit called colortune http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/..._productId_189330_langId_-1_categoryId_165557 Will defiantly help you tune your new carb! Just make sure you get the right thread size if you do take up my advice.
I took my head off and my plug was fucked, and there wasn't a hole in the piston so im happy haha. I've bought a new jet for my standard carb. Head gasket had gone and was blowing like a mother fucker. I'm using a head gasket from a Yamaha MY50 for now haha. My gasket set will be here on monday Dan
