Hi, I've noticed a starting problem in the cold damp weather. My scooter will take a while to fire then when it fires it rev for a second or so then die. It will keep on doing this for 10mins or so then eventually start. its really annoying I think it may be a choke problem anyone else any ideas. thanks
1) adjust idle mix screw *slightly* to compensate. experimenting a quarter twist in either direction. 2) take choke part off carb, blow out with air can, put back together. (dont forget the clip for the top if it uses one) 3) Depend on the power of prayer. For the record, mine has also been having problems, keeps cutting off at speed got rescued by moped crew today. 100`s of drivers buzzing by, no one stopped. 6 lads on scooters came by after 20 minutes, one of them had seen me stranded going past and rounded some friends up.
I'm sick to the back teeth of this scooter at the minute but will give what you said a try tomorrow! cheers dude! and there are good people out there! a bloke stopped to offer petrol last week when i broke down i wish i had just needed petrol haha
ok so went to start it about 30 mins ago and the same again took about 10 minutes to start. at first it would just turn and turn and turn and not fire then it would start making an effort with some smoke coming out exhaust quite white smoke as well should i be worried. it will then fire rev a little bit then die if i try to apply revs it will drop right down to where it's barley running then will die. then eventually it will get to where i can rev it but nothing happens, its hard to explain i can rev it but it will take about 5 seconds for it to pick up and rev properly - this is also belting out smoke when i do this. it then will rev start and go fine. I'm going to go about stripping the carb down and cleaning it once the snow shower has passed! anyone ever had trouble like this nd has a remedy for it please let me know cheers
I'll give the carb another clean this has never really happened to it but ill check everything over ignition coil ht lead and spark plug are brand new not even 50 miles on them haha! but I'll get them checked cheers Lee
yh the plug might have some crap on it though so its struggling for a spark i had this with my phantom and plug and carb clean sorted it
just thought about it and my freind had this exact problem with his speedfight 50 and it blew up a few weeks after this problem dont no weather it was the cause or not but i shouldnt think this would happed to you or not but when they rebuilt it they changed the choke aswell so this might also be the problem
not even got to the bottom of my starting problem and came accross another one. kick start gear thing is all worn down and my kick start only works sometimes! thats another tenner for a new pinion! greaaaat!
well got a new pinion on the way going to get a manual choke thing next week also! no luck getting my scoot started again as the batteries gon flat but jacks coming to jump start me tomorrow and will hopefully get me to college!
it runs fine once its started so I though to rule that out but my mate was looking at it the other day and said there was good compression! It's just a general pain to start cold. It will start straight away if it doesn't get cold like today it was a pain to start then i rode to the shop it ran fine and started perfect when i came out! but if its cold its a night mare which led me to believe it is a choke problem cheers
yeah does sound like a sticking choke , but just to rule out compression even if you don't have a tester remove the plug and cover the hole with you finger and get a friend to hit the electric start or kick start and it should be enough to move your finger if its not that you no there is a issue
thats what my pal done he knows more than me about scooters we checked it whilst I was replacing coil and plug, hopefully I'll get it started tomorrow! got my mate with a back up battery as my kick start pinion is fubarred but going to take it college clean all the carb out properly and get a manual choke ordered cheers steve
sound then mate , yeah id just give the carb a good clean , fit your new choke , and a new plug in case its fouled due to the faulty choke for the sake of 3 quid may as well lol , let us no how you go on with it fella cheers
yeah will do, probably chuck a compression tester on it as well perks of college got the equipment to use! will keep you posted cheers fella
yeah mate may as well you will probably get off lucky though , iv got to rebuild my rs's top end this week the joys of 2 strokes lol
oh dear mate, bet its been a pain! hoping i've got off lucky! joys of motoring indeed atleast its not boring!
sure as mate been running like shit and wont go into the power bands so took the head off to find white sludge in my combustion chamber, so head gasket started to go ,so going replace the piston rings , and add a new gasket set should be back up and running by the weekend hopefully lol , and i think you have mate as like you said it runs fine when warm so to me that indicates a worn plug or the chokes sticking , and yeah true never a boring day on a 2 stroke lol
