hi im having trouble getting my speedfight 100 to start it has spark because iv checked the spark plug, the engine turns over but just doesnt fire up its been running all week, because im not working today i went out to start it as i do this everyday that im not using it, it struggled to start but then started so i left it runnuing for a little while then turned it off tried to start it again but it wouldnt start, any ideas???
i am not to clued up on these things and i dont know how to check if fuel is gettin through?? i cant remember and i have cleaned the spark plug up now, i sound quite dumb i know just want it running
Start off by testing that the fuel tap works. Take the fuel hose off and suck on the vacuum pipe from the end that goes into the carb. If fuel flows through the tap is okay. Let us all know.
im not sure which pipe i suck on, i took 1 off and petrol came out but the other pipe nothing came out??
scratch that last qoute lol i have done it right now yeah when i suck it petrol comes out, could it be the mixture screw or something to do with the carb, which way do i turn the screw to get more fuel through is it closed or open?
more fuel is to close it i.e. clockwise. Before you do that have you done something different to the setup such as modifying? Try and start it (for no more than 8 seconds) then whip out the spark plug and see if it is wet
no i bought it 2 weeks ago it has been running fine it has a tecnigas exhaust on it but other than that i think everything is standard, im not a tuner i just want it to go to and from work, and i moved the idle screw slightly as it was close to cutting out when idle, but again that was a week ago
did as you said no more than 8 seconds and it was dry so im guessing no fuel is going through?? and yes i have just put another in i checked them both to see if they were getting spark but it was dry when i took it out
Good, at least we know its not the tap or the spark plug. In that case clean out the carb and jets. Then put all of the hoses apart from the vacuum pipe. Suck on it as before for about 10-20 seconds and connect it back to the carb. Then kickstart it
aswell if i wanted to take the carb off and clean it what can i use to clean it i have no carbclean, would i have to buy some or can i use wd40 or something, i have no kick start just electric start
Yep it just may start easier on a kick, never mind. When you get a chance to clean the carb let us know i'd be interested how it pans out
just took carb off now and cleaned dont have a compressor so the petrol will just have to do, cant try it til morning now though need to charge the battery lol iv tried starting it that much the battery is getting tired so will give it a charge tonight then try and crack it up, what settings on the mixture screw should i have it and same with th idle what should that be set at? cheers for your help by the way im lost with all this lol
My old engine used to do this but all i had to do is turn the ignition off kick it about 10 times turn the ignition on then kick it and it would start straight away
Fuel mixture screw should be around 2 times out and the idle you want to have it all the way in and wind it out gradually. Be cautious that the rear wheel is off the floor as the bike will throttle lock
