    sorry, in my (honest) opinion.

no not worth it for me, when you consider the extra cost of an irriduim plug for no real gains.

A normal spark plug costs around £2, they cost around £7. You will be pissed off if you buy it and it blows within a couple of hours (Well thats what happened to me :().

Hmm while we are on this topic, can i just ask does any one know if a "High output coil" would make any difference?

yeah, they are great, you can interfere with people's TVs from about a mile away.

I tried one on my dt125 and found it helped with the starting. Would start with one kick evan in the cold with the irridium plug were as it would take 2 kicks with a non irridiam plug.

its to much hype tho in the ads ;)

I was very reluctant to post my thoughts on this subject as at least 2 high ranking people on this forum have already said these plugs are a waste of time!!

here goes...generally sparks can be made to jump at a lower voltage when arcing from sharp objects.
This is why new spark plugs with nice new sharp electrodes will require less voltage to arc (spark) than ones with electrodes worn round.

if you took a std copper core spark plug and ground the centre electrode to a sharp point you would lower the arc over voltage by aproximatley 30%...

which would give you a much more stronger/reliable spark=better performance, easier starting etc....

The only problem is the copper would erode so quickly the benefit would only last maybe 50 miles before the centre electrode started to round and performance would drop right off....

now NGK have tried to address this problem with ultra hard exotic metals like iridium....which have much less erosion than copper (last longer)...

as wobbly pointed out 2 strokes like to eat plugs...especially if the idle mixture/jetting is a little off...

so i think iridium plugs would be beneficial in a tuned 2 stroke....wether they give any more power....who knows....but if it gives easier starting (less arc over voltage requirement) and lasts a little longer than a copper core plug....Then thats surely a result ;)

Also look at that centre electrode on the iridium plug....they are getting ever closer to haveing pointed centre electrodes aint they ;)

p.s...just my thoughts on iridium plugs...no offence intended :D

ive heard reports that the iridium plugs dont foul up as easily as copper core...

so you can get away with haveing the carb a little off ;)

this is true with iridiums in 4t's.. they dont like 2t oil tho.

might have to do the whole "go see shiny an have a little tinker at his work" a bit sooner.. need that bike setup right as i know theres power hiding
