But this scooter is going to be the death of me! I have fitted a big bore kit & when it goes it seems to go well, but starting it is a nightmare it will start run for 3-4 secs then die, I have to remove the plug clean & dry it then start it again, it does this until I jack it up off the floor & start it & rev it at ~5000 rpm & the plug gets warm. When it stops the plug is oiled, I think the autolube is supplying too much oil to the mixture. I have a 2004 Piaggio nrg mc3 with the oil pump on top of the engine, does anybody know how I can turn the oil mixture down? I does smoke a lot when its running. I don't want to run it short of oil, but too much is making my life a nightmare!
You could do that - but I don't think it's the problem. Check your air screw (or richness screw depending) & lean out the start with that. Unless it's just the main jet which is too big........ What kind of carb are you running ?
Its unlikely to be the main jet too big as it is the original carb that was running the 50cc engine, I will screw the mixture screw in & see if that makes any difference, will tell you what carb it is when I look tomorrow.
The thought has crossed my mind, as I don't trust "autolube" after a disaster with an outboard, but I cant find out what the mixture oil/petrol is? Most chainsaws run at 50:1 & they are air cooled, so I thought that a water cooled engine with a similar pre mix would be about right, but I cant get confirmation, & I don't want to ruin it.
